Benque's Heritage Tour Map

Benque's Heritage Tour Map | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Benque has a really smooth looking, high resolution map on their new website. The Benque Viejo Tourism Committee has a good mission: develop Benque Viejo del Carmen as a unique and attractive destination ensuring sustainable development through responsible tourism that will allow visitors and the local community to benefit from the experience of the local culture and heritage while retaining the small town charm as well as allowing for convenient access to the surrounding attractions.  Now they just need more hotels and restaurants that people can go to after visiting Xunantunich, Actun Chapat, Poustinia Art Part, and Lake Benque.

In related news, Benque has gotten over 2 million dollars from the Belize Municipal Development Project, which they are planning to use to upgrade the sidewalks around Centennial Park and for the paving of some streets which are part of the Heritage Tour.

BMDP Project Consultations in Cayo

BMDP Project Consultations in Cayo | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

You can read about phases 1 and 2 of the BMDP upgrades happening all around Cayo.  The Belize Municipal Development Project had a meeting with Cayo's citizens at CET to determine which streets would be repaired next.

"Under Phase One of the BMDP, major works in infrastructure has already been done in the Twin Towns, which included the improvements to 18th Street and West Street in San Ignacio.  Indeed, so much work is ongoing under Phase One, that Mayor John August has called on the Twin Towns to bear patience as he is fully aware that the these projects cause disruptions to traffic but in the end, everyone in the municipality will benefit...  That sense of public participation was most noteworthy last Thursday at CET in San Ignacio as the people voted, by a show of hands, which roads were to be selected for major improvements."
