Daniel Velazquez has a touching video out from the Belize Wildlife & Referral Clinic's inauguration. Right after the ceremony, a confiscated baby monkey was delivered to the clinic. Dr. Isabelle Paquet Durand did her thing, and you can see her use the x-ray machine that the Heska grant money was used to purchase. True wildlife medicine at work. Thank you, BWRC, for all you do for the wildlife of Belize!

The BWRC has a new FB page. They won the Heska award last year, and now have the only X-ray machine in Belize for animals, and they use it daily. They recently helped rescue the black jaguar, and also tried to save an abused howler monkey. They've also been working with ISIS students taking Summer courses in Cayo. Like them if you get a chance.

Here's the Channel 5 online article about the Belize Wildlife and Referral Clinic winning the $25,000 grant from Heska. With this great news came some bad: veterinarian Dr. Michael DeShield has passed away. Condolences to his family.

The BWRC, located in Cayo, at Central Farm, has their new website up and running. There are some cool videos on the site of some of the exotic animals they've saved. They'll be having their grand opening next month, on the 19th of October. They are using the x-ray machine, which they got after winning the Heska grant earlier this year, all the time now. Thanks, BWRC!
"The Belize Wildlife and Referral Clinic is a non-profit organization founded in 2011 with the help of a host of partners and friends. After many years of assisting wildlife without a clinic facility and only basic medical equipment, the BWRC can now offer on-site x-ray and gas anesthesia; for both wildlife and domestics. This is a first in Belize, and world class by any measure. We’re now seeing wildlife patients on a regular basis, and we are establishing veterinary associates for our domestic referral services. Our main focus is making the clinic fully operational, and of course the clinic fundraising."

The Belize Wildlife Referral Clinic is open, and while there's still work to do, they are saving animals most every day. The Xray machine they purchased with the Heska grant is working well. They have bumber stickers and water bottles for fundraising. Best of luck, BWCN!

Veterinary Practice News ran an article about how the BWRC won Heska's $25,000 grand prize. "The center is the only wildlife medical facility providing critical cervices to many rare and endangered wildlife species, according to Heska. Center officials will spend the prize money on providing medical services, expanding services in Belize and deploying mobile medical equipment in the field."
