Xunatunich And Cahal Pech Walk Around

Video of the day. Great video of Xunantunich-Ancient Mayan Archaeological Site, and Cahal Pech Archeological Site, from a guest perspective.

'Walkaround of Xunantunich and Cahal Pech maya ruins. Both of these sites are beautiful with amazing history. Both of these sites can be visited in a single day. El Castillo is about 130 feet high from the ground. Tour provided by pack https://www.pacztours.net/ . They will provide free pickup from the San Ignacio area hotels.'

Pacz Tours New Office

Pacz Tours New Office | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Pacz tours, one of the original Cayo tour operators, has moved their office, literally right next door to their old office.  Bigger, better office, same great service.  Burns avenue is really looking good.

"Pacz Tours, one of the best tour operators in Belize, has moved 5 feet over to a bigger office."

Nice to see the industry growing.

Cayo's Cahal Pech and Parrot Nest

Cayo's Cahal Pech and Parrot Nest | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Cayo got some good press in this article.  The Parrot Nest Lodge gets a good review, and Cahal Pech is shown in pictures.  Benny's Kitchen, which is a great stop for lunch during a long canoe ride, also gets a good review.  Pacz Tours gets rave reviews for their canoeing and ATM tours.

"Next on our agenda, was a trip to ATM Cave.  I had told the other guests at Parrot Nest how much fun the ATM Cave was, that they decided to go with us.  PACZ Tours picked us up at 8 am, and we headed for the cave.  After about an hours drive, we reached the entrance to the park.  There we gathered our helmet, lunch and water provided.  And then we start the 45 minute hike to the cave, crossing the river three times.  Oh, did I mention that this cave has a river running through it?  YEAH, how awesome is that?!"

Scarlet Macaws, Mountain Pine Ridge during the day, Ca'ana at sunset, and roasting marshmallows at night.  That sounds like quite a tour.  Pacz Tours does just that.  Check them out at http://www.pacztours.net/

Horseback Riding in San Ignacio Belize

Horseback Riding in San Ignacio Belize | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

There are a lot of great rides available around Cayo.  Mountain Equestrian Trails is the best.  Has anyone ridden to Xunantunich?  "The nicest way to see Belize up close is on horseback. You'll find beaches, jungle, pine forests and a few other types of terrain. Each one of these ecosystems is full of life and usually includes Mayan ruins. The San Ignacio area is predominantly jungle and rolling hills with lots of Mayan ruins. Pacz Tours has quite a few different half day and full day horseback riding tours that explore these areas."

Cayo Castillo Chronicled

Cayo Castillo Chronicled | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Cayo really steals the show in this travel article from the San Francisco Chronicle.  It's pretty comprehensive as far as attractions go.  3 of the 5 places to stay mentioned in the article are in Cayo: San Ignacio Resort Hotel, Ka'ana(which was just in an article about wellness travel), and Caves Branch.  The Guava Limb Cafe and Pacz Tours are also specifically mentioned.

Wow!  These are the best pictures of ATM ever!  Check out some of Ben Kim's amazing pictures from when Pacz Tours took him through the cave last weekend.  Spectacular pictures!

"Just got done with post processing this assignment.  It takes my back to my roots in adventure and travel.  I did a lot of caving when I was a bit younger. ATM Cave was an absolute pleasure to photograph.  I have to give a really, really, big thanks to Jamaal Crawford at PACZ Tours for inviting me and Jaime Awe at NICH for making this possible.  What a great way to start off the new year!"

Actun Tunichil Muknal Classic Article

Actun Tunichil Muknal Classic Article | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

This is a classic review of ATM.  Great for the pictures, of which new ones are few and far between now, and the story, which has a well written postscript about how the experience wouldn't be the same anywhere else.  Pacz gets an honorable mention, as do Patrick Warrior and Carlos Panti.

"In other, more 'developed' countries, a comfortable dry tunnel would no doubt have been blasted through from the 'show caves' to the Visitors Centre and they'd be putting a thousand visitors a day through here along roped walkways to look at what remained of the artifacts after the museums had taken their cut.  Of course, that would make the visit more comfortable and accessible but you'd miss out on a wonderful life enhancing adventure and the sense of awe and mystery that touched us would feel somewhat 'canned' if you felt it at all."

Walking in the Steps of Mayans at Actun Tunichil Muknal

ATM is getting some press, as is Pacz Tours.

"Last time I went to ATM, the waters were really high due to rainfall. This time, even though it had been raining off and on for several days, the water levels were much lower. To get to ATM you have to cross Roaring Creek River three times. Don’t let the word ‘creek’ foul you. It’s not overly difficult, but it’s not easy either. Once at the cave entrance we had to swim in (you don’t have to dive under the water…the water is just too deep to walk in that area). Then you hike approximately one kilometer while in the cave. Doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s all upstream while submerged ankle to chest deep."

Channel 7 mentioned the find too.  Pacz was allowed to show the pots since they were instrumental in informing NICH, and helping to stop looting from the site.
