Imagination, Money and Internet Marketing - Finding and Living In Greatness

Imagination, Money and Internet Marketing - Finding and Living In Greatness | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

My favorite part of this post is:

My message to you is simple - BE BOLD! Find AWESOME and live there.

Add that to the table showing the real costs of playing "small SEO ball" and the argument to think big is persuasive (of course I wrote it so naturally I would think that lol).

If you are tempted to play tit for tat SEO games DON'T. Google's brilliant engineer Navneet Panda killed that game. The new game is finding and living in greatness. Not easy and you may have just caught up with the old game. Sorry and welcome to Internet marketing :).

The Secret Internet Marketing Superman Stuff [Marty's 3 IM Tips]

The Secret Internet Marketing Superman Stuff [Marty's 3 IM Tips] | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

3 Things You Can't Know, Until You Know
Apparently I've entered that "professor emeritus" space that befalls all Ecommerce Directors as they age (lol). Before I link off into the sunset here are three things I could have told you back when I was an Ecom director only on pain of death (yours or mine :).

1.  Internet Marketing Isn't What You think
I wrote a piece about how misinformed most people are about what Internet marketing IS:

http://www.atlanticbt.com/blog/why-internet-marketing-isnt-what-you-think-it-is/

Internet marketing is the extension, amplification and feedback loop every marketer depends on. For every moment you obsess about look and feel you lose money because THEY (your customers) will tell you everything you need to know if you only LISTEN.

Oh, and make sure you LISTEN to Google too. Good to do what the KING tells you to do WHEN she tells you too.

2. Everything Balances and Dances Until There Is A Wobble
Metrics are tied to each other. When your traffic goes up chances are your bounce rate will inch up too. When your time on site goes up because you've created great gamification or video marketing your SEO gets easier, you generate more Facebook LIKES and life is good.

Then there is a wobble.

Wobbles are inevitable so staying calm and carrying on no matter how severe the wobble is the only way to be an Internet marketer (otherwise you end up jumping off the roof LOL).

Wobbles can come from Google, competitors or the war in Iraq. Death, taxes and that there will be costly wobbles in your Internet marketing future are life's new immutable truths. Your Internet marketing will dance again after a period of rehab and if you stay calm and carry on.

3. The Secret Is There Is No Secret
I spent valuable TIME trying to find the FREE LUNCH of Internet marketing, the silver bullet, the one action that would solve all problems. Some may be able to do so, but someone wins the lottery too that doesn't mean it makes statistical SENSE (lol).

Your best Internet marketing bet is to:

* DO THE WORK.

* LISTEN to the responses.
* Rinse and Repeat.

The MAGIC of life and Internet marketing is in the JOURNEY not the destination no matter how rich it makes you. In the end your money goes into a trust or to your children, so what matters is what is happening NOW, this MOMENT.

If you are doing the work, no matter how "bad" you think it is, you are ahead of many. If you LISTEN you are ahead of more and if you relentlessly rinse and repeat you will be at the far right of Internet marketing's bell curve.

Good luck to all the Supermen and Superwomen out there thinking that surely their head will explode if they have to learn one more thing (it won't) and never trusting they are really THERE (they are).

You NEVER need anything MORE than what you have as you read this. You are fully armed and ready right NOW to change the world, to change YOU.

Do the work. Listen. Rinse and Repeat.

5 Under Used Secret Internet Marketing Weapons Hiding In Plain Sight

5 Under Used Secret Internet Marketing Weapons Hiding In Plain Sight | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Exclusive Content for Curation Revolution (http://www.scoop.it/t/curation-revolution ) on Scoop.it:

Marty Note

I've been on vacation this week. When on vacation your mind starts to cycle differently. Today my mind was thinking about things I know are secret weapons, things that are sitting there waiting for someone to understand well enough to use for good purpose (hopefully). Here is my list of 5 weapons in waiting:

1. The Keyword Tag

When we move to a semantic web the lowly tag will be our guide. We will learn to tag things fast with clear hierarchy and connection across a galaxy of content. Those who can tag will be able to curate and create an order of magnitude more content so the skill will go Darwin and become an epidemic.

2. The #Hashtag

If keyword tags are powerful the #Hashtag has super powers. Since #hashtags are attached to one of the best real time search engines, Twitter, the hashtags largely under utilized POWER is begging to have a hybrid brain, enough left brain to understand mixed with enough right brain creative to know what to do, to pick the #hashtag up and make it sing a special song.

3. Paper.li (http://paper.li/)

Perhaps the best of the "do more with less" tools (http://www.atlanticbt.com/blog/internet-marketing-5-magical-do-more-with-less-curation-tools/ ) Paper.li combines the power of the tag and #hashtag with magic, with the ability to create a beautiful auto-magazine with minimal curation and oversight. The opportunities for feedback and interaction are so expanded by @SmallRivers tool that the first group to really know how to plug and play Paper.lis across their segments and keywords will be dangerous.

4. The Mobile App

Google reported lower than expected earnings this week (http://www.scoop.it/t/digital-revolution-leaderboard/p/2980796143/why-google-missed-earnings-today-in-a-single-word-mobile) showing a loose brick in the dam. For the first time ever the number, in absolute terms, of searches DECREASED.

This is HUGE as it is the realization of the Mobile First movement (http://www.scoop.it/t/mobile-revolution/p/1277764146/a-book-apart-mobile-first ). Mobile represents a viable shadow government and it is creating havoc for the digital mafia (Facebook, Google, Amazon). No one knows what is next, but it is going to be DIFFERENT and MOBILE.

5. Scoop.it (http://Scoop.it )

The brilliance of the Scoop.it strategy is coming into view. Scoop.it knows we need a hub to clean up our social mess. Scoop.it is waging an intelligent campaign to become the way we organize every other social tool, content and site.

The people who made the real money in the gold rush in the 1800s? Not the miners. If you dollar cost averaged all of their "killings" across all the chasers the miners made little. The people who helped the miners get organized, file claims and provided the pitchforks made the real money. Scoop.it's strategy to sell digital pitchforks is brilliant, intelligent and I like using their pitchfork more and more (something that can't be said for most pitchforks that tend to create the opposite reaction).

Now back on vacation for one last weekend :).
