Create 'Like Me' Tribes and Think Mobile First This Holiday Season to WIN Hearts, Minds and Money

Create 'Like Me' Tribes and Think Mobile First This Holiday Season to WIN Hearts, Minds and Money | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Lions, Tigers and Bears (oh my)
We've seen survey data from Content Marketing Institute and others that suggest those who tell the best STORY this holiday selling season will win hearts and minds. SALE without story is OVER.

This post is about how to create "Like Me" tribes (personas and segments) and then use your customer classifications to create great "Mobile First" marketing.

The E-commerce teams that keep their content fresh and relevant will find mobile is a huge HELP to their marketing. Marketers whose emails look lousy on mobile or who aren't thinking like App Developers (i.e. lots of small cool games all relating to a goal and everything connected like Lego blocks) will find the holidays tough and not very rewarding.

Turns out thinking like an App Developer is a good idea for every e-commerce merchant. Think small, fun and connected and your holiday marketing will win. Listen carefully and curate the winners and your holiday sales may set new records.

SEO Writing Tip - How To Avoid STOP Words

SEO Writing Tip - How To Avoid STOP Words | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Better SEO Writing

Just Scooped a great #infographic about SEO Writing that didn't mention some of my favorite tips or anything about "stop words" so I added 5 tips to the Scoop and wrote a quick ScentTrail Marketing post about Stop Words:

15 SEO Writing Tips (10 Infographic, 5 from me)

SEO Writing - Eliminate Stop Words (ScentTrail Marketing)

There is great news about the elimination of stop words. When you tune your writing to use shorter sentences, smaller paragraphs and reduces stop words your copy reads faster and so becomes more engaging. Win Win.

Kathy Lenard's curator insight, May 1, 2013 11:26 PM

I sometime write long sentences; so when I saw these tips about the elimination of STOP words, I had to Scoop this.

Martin (Marty) Smith's comment, May 2, 2013 7:36 AM
Thanks for the Rescoop Kathy. Shortening your sentences, more Hemingway than Faulkner, can have positive impacts on SEO and visitor engagement. Marty

SEO's Social Media Singualrity Is Near

SEO's Social Media Singualrity Is Near | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

My friend Mark Traphagen (@MarkTraphagen) has a genius series of posts and comments going on Google Plus (all linked in the attached article).

I share thoughts on SEO, the Google Float, the coming semantic web and why Kurzweil's singularity may be closer than we think at least for Internet marketers.

The Magic Of Knowing What You Want To Be When You Grow Up

The Magic Of Knowing What You Want To Be When You Grow Up | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Marty Note
Wow, was able to articulate how I want to be when I grow up today!

Don't get such an epiphany every Monday morning (lol). I think this personal revelation started when I wrote SEO and Data Got A Thing Going On (http://scenttrail.blogspot.com/2012/11/seo-and-data-got-thing-going-on.html ) sitting at my favorite restaurant after Free Internet Marketing Consulting Saturday concluded.

The idea is to spend time building things and giving back. Here is what we are building:

* ScentTrail Marketing with a new "Social Content Management System (CMS)".

* Story of Cancer Trust - use technology to bridge gap between doctors and patients to help cure cancer.

Yes, this is like saying I want to climb Everest and K2 in the same month, but what is a BHAG (Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal) without some RISK?

For doubters out there I would point out that even my mother didn't believe I could ride a bicycle across America. Martin's Ride To Cure Cancer (http://www.MartinsRide.com) did that raising funds for cancer research.

As mothers do mine was worried. "Martin," she said to me more than once, "you can get to the Mississippi and since that is a big body of water call your goal accomplished".

What mom didn't realize is if I could make it to the mighty Mississippi I could make it to Santa Monica. If we can do one of these BHAGs we can do them both due to the magic of the Internet and the help of smart friends :).

To have a chance of accomplishing either of these goals I will need a great TEAM. Hope you will consider becoming part of our team by....

Following @ScentTrail (http://www.twitter.com/scenttrail )
Reading & Joining ScentTrail Marketing (http://ScentTrial.blogspot.com )

Following @Atlanticbt (http://www.twitter.com/atlanticbt )
Reading & Joining Atlantic BT's Blog (http://www.atlanticbt.com/blog )

Knowing what you want to be when you grow up is magical even if it hapens weeks before your 55th birthday (lol). Better LATE than NEVER.

Hope you will join me for the ride (or the arduous climb LOL). Going to be fun, hard but fun like most things worth doing in life :).

Curation Is The Next Web Revolution - ScentTrail Marketing Archive

Curation Is The Next Web Revolution - ScentTrail Marketing Archive | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Scenttrail Marketing Archive
Thought it might be an interesting exercise to revisit key posts from Scenttrail Marketing. Curation Is The Next Web Revolution is why I got to play with Scoop.it.

After one of Scoop.it's founders, Marc Rougier, read this post they offered to let me play with their cool new tool while still in beta. Curation Is The Next Web Revolution feels more true today than when it was first shared in early 2011.

Curation is the best way to test content as I described in How I Use Scoop.it (http://sco.lt/5pwF6n). We are so committed to content curation we are building a new tool called CrowdFunde to help websites understand what content helps them the most.

No doubt in our mind content curation is what's next. What about you? Are you curating content? Share how you use tools like Scoop.it, G+, Paper.li or your blog to create effective content marketing and we will share with our tribe.

Internet Marketing Degree - Do I Need One? ScentTrail Marketing

Internet Marketing Degree - Do I Need One? ScentTrail Marketing | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

One of the top 5 ScentTrail posts of all time asks a simple question, do you need an Internet marketing degree. My thought when I wrote this piece was NO since classrooms can't keep up with the speed of Internet marketing innovation. If anyone has attended helpful classroom instruction in Internet marketing let me know and I will curate into the post.

Selling Out To Help Cure Cancer - ScentTrail Marketing

Selling Out To Help Cure Cancer - ScentTrail Marketing | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Video Tour of my house in Durham, NC:
http://pfretour.com/23208

Here is how my "Selling Everything" sale will work and a few of the first items we can't ship (furniture). My house and the rest of "everything I own" should go up in the next few days.

This post explains WHY I'm "selling out" and how you can help by buying STUFF and VOLUNTEERING. Will be loading more STUFF up over the next few days, so please tell your friends and wish us luck.

Together we cure cancer in our lifetime.

All proceeds benefit my 501c3 nonprofit Story of Cancer Foundation and help with development costs for Cure Cancer Starter (http://www.curecancerstarter.org) the first crowdfunding platform developed by a cancer survivor (me:) and dedicated to cancer research.

I am not ALONE in this journey.

My amazing employer, Raleigh software and web devleopers Atlantic BT, are creating Cure Cancer Starter and matching my investment.

I'm paying for development with my salaray and cash is getting TIGHT so time to sell everything, time to sell out to help cure cancer :).

Also explained in my Startups Scoop.it Feed and on GooglePlus.

Is Your Website EPIC? Here's How Your Website Can Become A Hero's Journey

Is Your Website EPIC? Here's How Your Website Can Become A Hero's Journey | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Most Internet marketers agree. Your website must be heroic, a quest of and for greatness. But how can your marketing make customers heroes? Here's How:

Ways To Make Your Customers Heroes Online

* Gamification (nothing like social kudos to reinforce a heroic journey).

* Curate and Use UGC (User Generated Content).

* Contests (who has the best Tough Mudder Pinterest board etc...).

* Leaderboards (part of gamification, but a constant reminder that a game is going on NOW).

Website design tips and several examples of "heroic" websites are included. If you know of great heroic online experiences please share so we can curate in.

Everywhere Vs Black Card Marketing ScentTrail Marketing

Everywhere Vs Black Card Marketing ScentTrail Marketing | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Wrote this post after reading about a new Forrester report that costs too much to actually buy so I improvised a Everywhere and Black Card Marketing report (lol).

These are opposing strategies and I prefer Everywhere Marketing, but Black Card has its place, it is just a very limited and riskier place :).

Imagination, Money and Internet Marketing - Finding and Living In Greatness

Imagination, Money and Internet Marketing - Finding and Living In Greatness | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

My favorite part of this post is:

My message to you is simple - BE BOLD! Find AWESOME and live there.

Add that to the table showing the real costs of playing "small SEO ball" and the argument to think big is persuasive (of course I wrote it so naturally I would think that lol).

If you are tempted to play tit for tat SEO games DON'T. Google's brilliant engineer Navneet Panda killed that game. The new game is finding and living in greatness. Not easy and you may have just caught up with the old game. Sorry and welcome to Internet marketing :).
