This new Haiku Deck is an outline for a book we hope to write over the next few weeks. I'm headed to Ohio State for several weeks of treatment at the james Cancer Center and NO WAY I sit on the bench during November (not going to happen).

If you would like to help PLEASE DO SO (lol). Many ways you can help including:

* Writing content to be included.
* Suggesting resources.
* Suggesting great interviews.
* Reading and editing (need lots of help there :).

I'm lucky to have smart, giving friends who I regularly TEST, a test they've never failed. Hope you will join me for the Social Shopping book writing journey. Writing and publishing a book is on my bucket list and I get things on that list DONE :). M (with help, lots of help)

@Jaana Nyström is a great curator and she just beat me to the punch :). When she shared her EPIC journey of using G+ to move from "nobody" to "somebody" I planned to blog about her amazing journey. The content and message was too good to be trapped in comments.

Read this post CAREFULLY as you may recognize where you are on Jaana's timeline of personal brand development. There are several "inside baseball" tips to pay particular attention to including:

* Don't worry about perfection, start publishing.
* G+ is an AMAZING and vastly under used tool (start there add more social nets later).
* No matter what, keep turning the crank (keep going) since the only sin you and your personal band can't recover from is NOT PLAYING.

Great stuff from an amazing curator. What lessons did you learn from Jaana Nystrom? What similar lessons have you learned as you create a meaningful personal brand?

Should You CLOSE or REDUCE Your Facebook Marketing?
Didn't know that Facebook was being such a jerk about "graph search" for brands. Not surprised to see you can buy your own list back as that is the kind of ransom Facebook has shown brands from the start. 

Interesting to see Mark Cuban takes his marbles and go home (threatening to close his Facebook pages). The article makes a good point.

 

If you have a substantial UNIQUE Facebook following you are probably stuck paying the $2. If not you may consider the cost / benefits of your Facebook marketing and arrive at where Cuban is - thinking about closing down your Facebook page (or relegating it to the "low investment" side of the fence).

As we consume more and more content via our mobile devices, both content marketing and social media marketing strategies need to be re-examined.


Why?

The end user, your consumer now has Notification Distraction, be it from a game or text message your content has limited engagement time of these devices. Getting a share has become even harder. 


Connecting content to product engagement is the new marketing.

Social Media It's The Conversation, Stupid is about the new rules of branding being created by a social world. If the old War Room during the Clinton presidential campaign's motto was, "It's the ECONOMY Stupid" then the new Social Media War Room's motto is, "Social Media: It's The Conversation Stupid".

As we "talk amongst ourselves" more and more we become increasingly platform agnostic. The conversation is the brand. The conversation is the currency and THAT is a huge shift. A shift creating openings for "clean slate" brands to step in and call "trusted brands" old, stale and not relevant.

Want to appear "not relevant" use social media to PUSH, don't listen or respond and never curate or attribute kudos to followers. This new Haiku Deck discusses the new rules of branding in a social world.

They will select 20 "Main Streets" to be revitalized based on UGC nominations and votes. Great idea proving another favorite topic - Save The World Marketing.

Every brand, product and service saves the world in some way. Connecting with how your brand, product, service or company saves the world has never been more important.

Love this quote:

"Social media is a fantastic complement to compelling, live television content," said Toby Byrne, president of advertising for Fox Broadcasting Co. "Not only is it a great marketing tool for us ... [it also] opens up additional ways for us to connect brands with our audience."

Duh! This new partnership is a victory and a defeat. Victory because it signals brands are getting social media. Defeat because the new partnership seeks to make social media just another push network.

Let's hope people smart enough to realize social media can rock live events also understand "live event" means there are threads that should be followed instead of simply pushing more disconnected ads at us.

Lee Odden CEO at Toprankblog interviewed 10 thought leaders on content marketing and curation. The article was published one year ago but is still really relevant, probably even more. I love the approach of Brian Solis who asks the good questions :

"Obviously you (as a company) have something to contribute, something to say, something of value to offer which is mostly likely why you’re in business. I need to hear about that."

 

Curation offers the opportunity to settle this dialogue between a brand and its users, becoming always more engaging. It's not enough to be here, you have to be here to say. As says Ann Handley, Chief Content Officer at @marketingprofs, "All organizations are now publishers — meaning, the company with the most engaging and interesting content is the one who wins."

Hi Jan, thank you for sharing this. :-)

I wanted to let you know that your last link, the bit.ly one isn't good. It has an extra square bracket at the end making it unusable.

Also: I think it would be very appropriate when curating something that is over a year old to say so explicitly as it is an extra element of immediate evaluation for the reader.
