Is Your Content So Good Its Binge-able? via @HaikuDeck

Is Your Content So Good Its Binge-able? via @HaikuDeck | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it
Netflix data shows "binge watching" is up. How do we create content marketing to encourage a binge?
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

How Can You Make Your Content So Good People BINGE It:

* Create Cliff Hangers Daisy Chained To Related Content.

* Keep it SHORT & SIMPLE.

* Use juxtapositions (like x, not y).

* Request, Award and Curate User Generated Content (UGC).
* Highlight BINGERS (comments and reviews).

That last bullet is one of the most effective. Much like Pavlov you get the behavior you reward, so reward BINGERS by Re-Tweeting them and curating their comments and notes into your marketing.

Even if your content isn't BINGE-ABLE yet, fake it to you make it. Benefits are too great to not work on making your content BINGE-ABLE.

Great Curator Profile: Cendrine Marrouat - CrowdFunde's Favorite Bedouin :) | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

The Amazing Cendrine Marrouat
Cendrine told us this was one of the nicest reviews of her work she's ever received. Hard to believe since here writing and tireless content curation is informative, inspirational, smart and hard working.

Cendrine is one of the hardest working "bands" in content marketing. When she takes a "day off" she is probably teaching. We shared a fraction of where she writes and curates and its six places.

Cendrine understands COPE (Create Once Publish Everywhere), but she doesn't fall into the trap. She actively supports, engages on and refines here content arsenal.

Not ONLY is Cendrine one of our favorite and hardest working "bands" in content marketing and curation she is one of our favorite Bedouin too. Always moving and in touch with what's happening we love it when Cendrine shows up. We share a cup of tea, warm our hands against the desert wind and talk about where we need to go next.

Cendrine beat me to the punch and wrote some nice words about me yesterday you can find in her 5 Social Media Gurus To Follow post:
http://socialmediaslant.com/social-media-pros-follow/

My post was schedule before we saw hers, but hearing her feedback was inspiring just when inspiration was needed. Thanks Cendrine and rock on :).

1st IndyWeek.com Give Guide & Why Lawyers & Real Estate Agents Need One Too!

1st IndyWeek.com Give Guide & Why Lawyers & Real Estate Agents Need One Too! | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Great Conent Marketing
We've discussed why lawyers and real estate agents must create content and social marketing. We haven't discussed WHAT kind of content they should create. Since we are speaking with lawyers let's stipulate a few important conclusions:

* Content marketing must generate social shares and links to matter.

* Cause marketing, since it is highly emotional, generates great social shares and links.
* The best content marketing you can WIN is UGC (User Generated Content) since it brings social shares and links along with it.
* Content marketing is expensive and takes time, but it can give any business that gets good at it an unprecedented market advantage.

That last bullet may be a little "trust me" for some, but trust me ANYTHING you do now must be supported by content marketing OR your assets will be stolen and/or be worth less.

Now that we have agreement on the base stipulations for our content marketing what kind of marketing should we create? A: Communal and cause.

Cause marketing like the IndyWeek Give Guide mashup is brilliant because you do almost NO WORK and achieve a huge benefit even as you help others (so win, win, win).

IndyWeek.com found a handful of local nonprofits across a variety of segments, asked them to submit an application and then formed their profile page out of that application (could have automated it all and they will next year). Cost = CHEAP, amount of new content = 27 pages. Amount of new social links, shares and SEO? HUGE.

Lawyers & Real Estate Agents
Divorce attorneys could gather 20 or 30 nonprofits probably easily out of their rolodex. Each nonprofit should be aligned so women's shelters, Ronald McDonald House and other community support reinforce the office's business.

Real Estate agents are really community content gatekeepers. They know the best restaurants, schools and stores because that knowledge helps them sell houses. Great content and social marketing real estate agents like my friend Bill Gassett know all the great local charities too so create a Give Guide to share that knowledge.

I can't remember when I've seen such a clear content and social marketing homerun that costs so LITTLE especially since my friends at WTE Solutions know how to set up a Give Guide now, so I bet total costs don't exceed $5k. Benefit, on the other hand, has to run into the millions (done right).

Digital First Business Implications - Atlantic BT

Digital First Business Implications - Atlantic BT | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it
Even brand powerhouses like Marty's old employers M&M's, P&G must realize what happens online today is most important product in a digital first world.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

After scooping a Neil Ferree post about lawyers needing to accept content and social marketing I realized my 2008 Infinite Inventory, Moore's Law, Saving Ford ScentTrail Marketing post didn't go near far enough.

This post is about difficulty of powerful branded manufacturers and widget makers have with embracing that the most important product they created today was digital and online. If your online presence isn't as great as your real world experience a slow decay will rot your brand's foundation.

Digital First is a revolution, a revolution that never slows for anyone to catch up or understand. This revolution only knows one speed - FASTER and only happens in one time NOW.

Neil's post made me smile because if lawyers, traditionally the antelope at our Internet marketing waterhole, are beginning to understand the need for content marketing supported by social media surely the 7th sign is here. Better stock up on canned goods, water and plenty of content and social media marketing if we want to survive :).

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Ford Creates DCC For The Fiesta
It is not an exaggeration to say social media saved the Ford Motor Company. DCC or Driver Created Content flowed to Ford because they GAVE AWAY 100 Fiestas for a year. They asked the customers who won the cars to provide real world feedback.

If this sounds like Ford gamified social media you are thinking what I am and what I wrote years ago:

Saving The Ford Motor Company (2008)
http://scenttrail.blogspot.com/2008/09/saving-ford-motor-company.html

When I wrote that piece in 2008 I wanted convey how the information is more important than the CAR. Ford got it and went me several better. Kudos to FORD and a lesson for every marketer who continues to doubt the power of social media, User Generated Content and gamification.

Curation Collisions Will Be Happening More and More

Curation Collisions Will Be Happening More and More | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Curation Collisions
I've been thinking about where the synchronous and asynchronous meet. It feels like the only art left is to COLLIDE ideas previously thought of as pristine or distinct. Together the active juxtaposition adds depth, information, mystery and hooks.

Hooks are TOUGH. We've been advertised to right up to our last nerve. The net effect of millions of ads is we don't believe much. Our skeptical hide is thick.

When we swing things around like a great Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) and smash them into one another we create the kind of surprise and arrested development that stops frenzied process just long enough to slip some passionate communication about how our parts can exceed our whole.

Can't think of a better idea of creating juxtaposition than the Poetics of Gesture image that pastes Twombly on a Basquiat. Too good!

What about you? Have you collided content creating surprise and arresting images in support of your #contentmarketing or #contentcuration?

Lori Wilk's curator insight, January 28, 2014 3:16 PM

Great to hear what's being said on issues of content creation vs content curation and we'll get the see what worked best when we tally up the results at the end of the year. I do agree that in many cases the writers are not getting paid enough to create the original content. It is easier to get more content delivered to more people, quickly, by having fewer original articles to create and more curated content to share. The curated content is already written and is waiting for more distribution. The original content takes more research, thinking, writing, editing, and then posting. It's a longer process to create new content and it costs more than curating existing content. The perfect combination of both content creation and content curation will be very lucrative for some platforms this year-we'll have to wait to see who figures it out the best and who makes the most money doing it.

3 S’s of Successful Content Marketing [Infographic + Marty Note]

3 S’s of Successful Content Marketing [Infographic + Marty Note] | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Content's Many Audiences
When you create content you need to think about who will be its eventual consumer. Do you know who and why your content will be consumed by? Not ever and not nearly.

What you do know is you need some content for search engine spiders, the only one guaranteed to read every word on your pages (lol). You also need short attention span and mobile theater. Think of a smart phone as a game console and you wouldn't be too far wrong.

Finally you need content that springs legs and walks around the world. My advice is to NOT plan for consumption as much as general content characteristics. Search engines love LONG form content. Users love graphics and short attention span theater.

Mobile users want instant gratification and to easily file for later. Rich snippets work great on mobile, will leave search engines wondering what the heck you are up to and may or may not go viral.

Do you need all three kinds of content: long form, rich snippets and games for mobile and viral content? Sure, and DO make sure you create all three, but don't limit where you publish.

Always test everything everywhere. If you have a rich snippet go viral then write a blog post and create some more weight for SEO and to promote viral. If you have long form go viral cut it up and tweet it.

Don't get MARRIED to the idea that X content goes into Y channel. Be flexible, test everything and COPE (Create Once and Publish Everywhere).

Social Nets Are Cool, But Blogs Are Content Marketing's Work Horse

Social Nets Are Cool, But Blogs Are Content Marketing's Work Horse | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Great post from @TMGmedia correctly defining the work horse of any content marketing - your BLOG.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Don't Be Fooled, Blogs Rule Influence and Conversion

Social nets form a vibrating membrane of marketing communications. Social nets vibrate and bang off each other like bumper cars. Social signals are the confirming truth of the new SEO and so very important, but when it comes to conversion and sharable influence your BLOG rules.

This post from @TMGmedia is very specific and helpful in reminding content marketers that blogging is about money. Social nets are moths to a light, needed and important but you won't be the only moth attracted to that flickering light.

Blogs, especially blogs well supported by social media, create distinction and voice. There is only ONE company that sounds like YOU (hopefully that is true even if you have multiple authors writing for you).

Resist the corporate tendency to smooth out all the edges and create a zombie voice. Distinct beliefs voiced with strength and confidence promotes shares and relationships. Be a human or accurately voice your company's human character.

Remember to share as much as you preach and balance your approach (not all long posts, not all short posts). Do what fits the content and your discovery / message and do so with authenticity and honesty and your tribe will grow.

Note: yes those are Magnetic Poetry Kit words, the cool gift item created by David Kapel the gift company I co-founded brought to market all thos years ago :).M
