SEO Games
Fun infographic. I tend to choose ONE keyword state (usually broad because exact is too depressing) and model from there. The important idea in SEO is consistency of approach.

Consistency trumps accuracy when modeling. If you don't know a lot about SEO this infographic is a good introduction, fun too.

Ecom Retailers Need To Plug Holes, Make Money
Wow, this study from my favorite email platform (@Bronto) will blow your hair back. Plug even a few of these gapping holes and it could mean millions in sales for ecom retailers.

Follow any two of the ideas in this study and ecommerce retailers could be using email marketing to profitably increase sales. Amazing with all the new shinny things how blocking and tackling is still the best place to MAKE MONEY NOW.

Great study and tips from Bronto. BTW, email is under pressure from mobile and hyper local, but still beyond valuable to ecommerce.

I would argue a few of these such as Bronto for Mail Chimp. A few I don't know since I left my job as an Ecommerce Director three years ago. Tools are what keeps any Ecom Director sane and there are some stellar tool recommendations here.

Compared to other metrics, site search usually gets passed over as one of those things you’ll improve soon. But taking steps to improve your site search can improve conversion rates.
Martin (Marty) Smith:

When I was a Director of Ecommerce I was a HUGE believer in "internal search". We purchased an expensive, $30K a year, SaaS to help.

I will never forget our CFO sneering that we would, "Never pay for such an expensive addon".  We paid for a year's worth of better internal search in a week and we didn't even know how to use the tool yet.

Searching is THE paradigm. Google has trained every web surfer instant and relevant results are only a click away. Frustrate that desire for meaningful results by visitors to your website at your absolute peril.

This great KISSmetrics article explains how to tune your internal search to make even more money. Did I ever convince my old CEO? Not so much, but doesn't matter. I don't work for or with him anymore (lol).

A couple of tips for a clean online store design with some inspirational examples of minimal e-commerce sites.
Martin (Marty) Smith:

I'm in favor of ANYTHING that helps customers move toward a conversion point faster. This is my favorite line from this post about clean ecommerce store designs:

More and more companies are ditching lots of color, models and movement on their websites in favor of more minimal design schemes.

I attribute this "simple is better" trend to the strength of A/B testing. The more testing you do the more simple your pat to conversion becomes (it is inevitable). Good Ecom design tips here for 2013.

Paul Rogers looks back on four years working on ecommerce websites and shares UX, performance and CRO tips.
Martin (Marty) Smith:

Solid tips here no e-commerce merchant should touch for a couple of weeks. When things slow down take one or two of these ideas such as:

* Optimize (means different things now post Panda).

* Bring back cart abandoners (always good idea).
* Conversion analysis (convert better).

* Tune up email marketing (better campaigns).

Don't even THINK about this stuff until after 12.25. On 12.26 take a deep breath, smile and stay calm and carry on. Begin your deep dives to figure out what happened and rock on.

What you don't know about managing URLs can hurt your website's Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Marty and Bill Ross Share URL management tips to help SEO.

Marty Note
Bill inspired me to share what I learned about URL management when I spent a week with SEO Guru Bruce Clay a few years ago. After Panda making sure your URLs aren't messy is critical. The article touches on social media marketing too because inter-linking there can hurt as well.

The article is on Atlantic BT's blog: http://www.atlanticbt.com/blog/seo-tip-of-the-week-being-careful-with-your-urls/

and includes a link to Bill's Linchpin SEO article: http://www.linchpinseo.com/ranking-user-metric-fragmentation
