Free Technology for Teachers: Find Free Photos by Searching on Every Stock Photo | Font Lust & Graphic Desires | Scoop.it
Regular readers of this blog probably know that my go-to places for free images are Photos for Class, Pixabay, and Unsplash. But those aren't the only places that you can find free images to use multimedia projects. Rather than lucky-dipping through other sites you can just head to Every Stock Photo for find a picture. Every Stock Photo is a search engine for public domain and Creative Commons licensed pictures. When you search on Every Stock Photo it pulls images from dozens of sources across the web. If you click on an image in your search results you will be taken to a larger version of the image, a link to the source, and the attribution requirements for using that picture.

Keynote for iPad: Drawing Feature - Dryden Art @fugelfun | Font Lust & Graphic Desires | Scoop.it

"I just started playing with the apps that I learned about during ISTE18 in Chicago. One that I'm really drawn to is an updated version of an old Apple app, Keynote. As of spring I learned from @karlyb that keynote had added a drawing feature to their iPad app. As I was searching this topic on twitter I found Mrs. Kellenberger's twitter feed showing student drawings like this one made using Keynote. She shared her tutorial that she made for her students (below) demonstrating a contour line drawing over a photo."

I don't use keynote, but I think this is fascinating! I'm actually trying to transition from PPT to GSlides. But it will take a long time - thousands of slides!

Image Searches with Chip Control!

Image Searches with Chip Control! | Font Lust & Graphic Desires | Scoop.it

Dan Russell writes: "You might have noticed...

... that the Image search now has a set of colored rectangles just below the query area.  Here's an example with a simple query.  See those rectangles?  They're called "chips," and they modify the image query."

Via Mary Reilley Clark
GwynethJones's insight:

This is a great informative post about something I hadn't noticed! Learning for the win!

Mary Reilley Clark's curator insight, February 6, 2018 4:13 PM

I just love Dan Russell's blog! I am always learning new things to share with students. This is a quick lesson to share, but can really help students find just the right image. You can click on several of the chips to further refine your search. I searched [sunsets], then added [Eiffel Tower] and finally [clouds] to find this beautiful photo. (Of course, I first limited my search to images labeled for noncommercial reuse!)

It's also a lesson in how search engines change rapidly, so we all should periodically pause and look over what's new. I've seen the chips on Amazon, and coincidentally, while I was searching for a new cast iron skillet, just like Dan.

So, not a life-changing thing to share, but it certainly might help students with searches, or spark some new ideas for their search query.

50 Gorgeous Color Schemes From Award-Winning Websites

50 Gorgeous Color Schemes From Award-Winning Websites | Font Lust & Graphic Desires | Scoop.it

Color is such a fundamental part of the way we perceive the world that we often take it for granted. Think about it: From the youthful and vivid orange on someone’s attire to the gray and gloomy sky above us, colors have the power to mold our perceptions of others and even the circumstances we find ourselves in.

This is why one of the most powerful tools in a designer’s arsenal is color. It can either make or break a design; it can be the determining factor in engaging viewers or sending them promptly on their way.

As a non-designer, I often find it difficult to find just the right colors for my amateur projects. Whether I’m creating a simple image to support my content or more elaborate projects such as a slide deck or infographic, I frequently spend a good amount of time looking for the perfect color scheme. I ask myself questions like: Do I want my design to be inviting? Provocative and bold? Or intelligent and elegant?

Unless you’re a seasoned designer, it takes time and effort to find a color combination that works, which is why the design team at Visme decided to provide our users with a handy list of beautiful color schemes from websites that have been recognized by Awwwards, the most prestigious award for Web designers and developers....
