Staggering, esp. when FB tolerates misogynistic, VAW and other hate-advocating individuals.

Every Internet Conversation With Dudes, Ever

Every Internet Conversation With Dudes, Ever - The Archipelago - Medium

We all know That Dude. He is the destroyer of discourse, the derailer of discussion. He is the troll that lives under your Twitter feed. He is the unsilent-but-deadly flatulence of Facebook. He ruins everything.

In particular, he can’t resist ruining a conversation about feminism. He lives in fear that a woman discussing feminism on the internet will be tragically deprived of his very important viewpoint. Thus, as a service to That Dude — and to you — I have collected every argument he has ever made or ever will make, ever. Here they are. You’re welcome, and I’m sorry.

Do Mothers Need Some Time Away from Social Media?

Do Mothers Need Some Time Away from Social Media? | Herstory | Scoop.it
Social networking may be stressing mothers out. Half of US mother social users report feeling pressure to create an image that their lives are perfect on social platforms, with younger mothers especially likely to feel this way. The majority of mothers have actually considered stopping use of or taking a break from social media due to burnout or frustration.
Deanna Dahlsad's curator insight, October 22, 2014 11:26 PM

Public social pressures, more than fear over time-wasted, is behind declines in mothers using social media.

The bitter truth in this tweet

"Because I used to tip car drivers 40% for "not raping and killing me" when I was in high school."

Earliest rule I learned when going out with girlfriends was to never be separated. We would go to the ladies room together and leave the club together. Safety in numbers.

This Creepy App Isn’t Just Stalking Women Without Their Knowledge, It’s A Wake-Up Call About Facebook Privacy [Update] | Cult of Mac | Herstory | Scoop.it

It’s an app that can be interpreted many ways. It is as innocent as it is insidious; it is just as likely to be reacted to with laughter as it is with tears; it is as much of a novelty as it has the potential to be used a tool for rapists and stalkers. And more than anything, it’s a wake-up call about privacy.

The only way to really explain Girls Around Me to people is to load it up and show them how it works, so I did. I placed my iPhone on the table in front of everyone, and opened the app.
