Education has become a struggle for most students around the world, and it is important that teachers and educational administrators are taking the time and effort to be able to teach students well. Not only is it important for students to understand the topics being taught in school, but they must have people supporting them in tough times. We are talking about the next generation of leaders. In the article, teachers in San Francisco started a journal with their students, where the students would share their lives and thoughts with one another. They shared personal things that wouldn't typically be talked about; however, their teachers made it a comfortable place, and the students quickly adapted to the idea. Many of the students are Latinx, African American, or of another racial or ethnic group. Their teachers took it into their own hands to teach one another about the different cultures and environments, advocating change for poor environments. It is specifically difficult for white teachers, considering they have not experienced first-hand racism or certain struggles. They refer to their teachings as "cultural competence," and provide change for the communities that need help. It's important for teachers to be involved in their students lives because, for many kids, teachers or educational administrators are significant in their mind sets. If teachers reach out to their students, teach the struggles of different cultures, and provide a safe space for their students, the well-being of students will improve drastically. There is nothing more important in such times than to know that there are people who will be supportive and helpful along the way.
