I selected this article from Curatti written by Raymond Morin because it explains the latest results by Nielsen on the habits of social media users.

The biggest audience on social media is not millennials after all.

The Changing Landscape in Marketing Online

People between the ages of 35 and 50 spend the most amount of time on social networks. I agree that this reveals the younger generation prefer to spend their time on mobile devices.

Morin explains the details of the study and explains how brands need to respect the values of their community with genuine interactions on social media.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • The use of social media differs according to the type of platform that is used. For example, on Facebook 178.8 million users log on with their smart phone in the U.S.

  • Depending on the nature of the social network, the nature of the users also changes. They will interact in different ways with brands.

  • Generations also have differences. Millenials are most likely to follow a business to gather information about them and to be entertained. Gen X'rs tend to follow for promotions, and Baby Boomers follow for promotions and information.

Why the Best Leaders Are Social Media Savvy

Why the Best Leaders Are Social Media Savvy | KILUVU | Scoop.it
Social media is more than just a key to driving sales, it can also be a helpful source for founders to project confidence and grace, or to stay cool during times of crisis.

That's according to a new study called "C-Suite, Social Media, and Brand Reputation" from BRANDfog, a social media consulting startup that helps Fortune 1000 executives improve their web profiles. It revealed that three-quarters of those surveyed (500 U.S. employees from different companies spanning various industries) believe that social media engagement in the C-suite makes a brand seem more honest and trustworthy.

Since 2013, there's been a 15 percent increase in the number of respondents who believe that social media engagement makes CEOs more effective leaders, it found.

"Most companies are good at utilizing social media on the brand level, but social media at the C-suite is much more strategic," said Ann Charles, founder and CEO at BRANDfog. Prior to launching the company in 2009, Charles held chief marketing positions at several tech startups, and later ghost wrote quarterly earnings scripts for executives.

We’ll go over the six main digital marketing channels you should at least be familiar with. On top of that, I’m going to show you how to evaluate each channel to determine whether it’s worth your time....

Want to be a superstar, but no time for social media? Fake it with Ghost Tweeter

Want to be a superstar, but no time for social media? Fake it with Ghost Tweeter | KILUVU | Scoop.it

"What if I told you that you could become an industry “thought leader” without ever writing a blog post. Or, that you could achieve Twitter stardom without personally sending a single tweet.I didn’t believe it either, but some people are apparently doing it. Maybe even some people you follow. And you may never guess how they’re doing it.

Ghost Tweeting is one of a number of companies that have emerged to outsource the writing and distribution of all your blogs, tweets, and posts. They will even handle all the social media engagement for you. “All the benefits, none of the work,” reads the tagline on their website....

Thanks for your comment Malek. I think the days of "ghost" writing on social media are limited without open and honest disclosure and transparency. Nothing wrong with teams tweeting but many, including high profile personalities, authors, politicians and many others will resist. When the you know what hits the fan, that's when the trouble starts. Of course, when the intern screws up, you can always claim you were hacked LOL.
malek's comment, August 7, 2013 4:37 PM
We first had fake accounts, then fake fans and now...? if there's a will, there's always a shortcut.......!!
Mike Ellsworth's curator insight, August 8, 2013 10:46 AM

As others have noted, this approach is not only not authentic, it's borderline unethical. But how does it really differ from hiring consultants to design and write marketing material for your business?

What do you think of this technique? Comment below.

Hit Makers: Why things become popular

Hit Makers: Why things become popular | KILUVU | Scoop.it

Do you ever wonder why certain content and ideas become very popular while others fail to gain traction? Derek Thompson’s new book ‘Hit Makers: How Things Become Popular‘ takes an in-depth look at what makes a viral or popular product. The book doesn’t provide a secret formula for virality, however, Thompson provides a lot of detailed research on the key factors that cause content and products to become popular. Here is my take on the content marketing lessons from the book.

It doesn't. So, while waiting for you to evaluate, decide, deploy, integrate, and optimize the spaghetti of solutions, try feeding your team a few lightweight apps that cost next to nothing and are dead simple to use....

How to Integrate Social Media and Blogging from The Art of Social Media

How to Integrate Social Media and Blogging from The Art of Social Media | KILUVU | Scoop.it

Ideas that spread, win. ~Seth Godin

A few years ago, blogging and social media were separate. Blogging was long-form, serious, and crafted. Social media was short-form, personal, and spontaneous. Some people predicted that social media would replace blogging because of declining attention spans.

Now blogging and social media not only amicably coexist; they complement each other. The trick is to use a blog to enrich your social media with long-form posts and to use social media to promote your blog.I recently did a live webinar event with Marketo about The Art of Social Media, and we’d like to share the takeaways from the presentation and a few of the follow-up questions that we answered....
