I agree Glenn (albeit) a strong headline and a powerful image will usually trigger a lot more opens and clicks which IMO is way more useful than a do-follow link

Beyond Google+ and other social media sites internal ranking of profiles - it's also smart to selectively build your own EXTERNAL links to your profiles at Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, FriendFeed, Tumblr, YouTube, etc. If content deserves promotion - so does WHO is creating and publishing it as well.

I think it offers an alternative way of presenting info, and it gives you a lot of options to actually showcase data about who you are. Pressfolios is another good one in this direction.
