Eight female Olympic players are accused of not "using best efforts to win"
So apparently badminton players can be charged for not giving it their all during a game ? What about game strategy. This is a tournement right ? The aim of the game being to get to the next stage (so long as you’re in line with the rules).
So far, said rules have been: 'not using one's best efforts to win a match' and 'conducting oneself in a manner that is clearly abusive or detrimental to the sport'. These are not rules, but merely words used to sanction.
Footballers deciding to play their second half with dominating defence strategy wouldn’t be disqualified. Players are told regularly to hang back, not to attack and to défend the home goal. Cyclists protect their own team by hanging back and leaving room for other team members, runner and swimmers compete to get ahead but not neccessarily for the best time.
Surely we can all admit that its acceptable to use strategy to win. If anythings at fault, its the format and NOT the players.
