The University of Luxembourg is to open its own start-up incubator, to complement the entrepreneurship programme it launched last summer.

The centre, whose name will be unveiled in an inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, aims to raise awareness among its students, employees and alumni about the possibilities entrepreneurship offers.

Unlike traditional start-up incubators, theirs will be designed for ideas that are still in the embryonic stages and have yet to be concretised.

A mentorship programme will be offered as part of the centre for aspiring entrepreneurs offering advice and access to networks in the business community.

Le nom ne sera dévoilé que mardi, mais on connaît déjà les grands principes de ce nouvel espace dédié à l’incubation des futures pépites luxembourgeoises. En lançant son incubateur, l’Université du Luxembourg cherche à renforcer son «entrepreneurship programme», lancé l’été dernier.

C’est un nouveau-né dans l’écosystème de plus en plus fourni dédié aux start-up. L’incubateur de l’Uni sera officiellement dévoilé mardi prochain, lors d’une réception en petit comité à laquelle participera le Premier ministre, Xavier Bettel.

Pour l’Université, il ne s’agit pas de marcher sur les plates-bandes des autres incubateurs luxembourgeois, comme le Technoport voisin, mais de proposer une offre complémentaire dans le cadre de son «entrepreneurship programme», qui vise à sensibiliser ses étudiants à l’entrepreneuriat. Ainsi, ce ne sont pas des start-up en tant que telles qui seront incubées, mais des idées à l’état embryonnaire.

A decade after the University of Luxembourg teamed with the Chamber of Commerce to offer a master's degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the president of the governance board highlighted the importance of attracting and keeping talent in Luxembourg.

Yves Elsen added the agreement between the two partners encourages entrepreneurship and innovation and has contributed to the development of a "favourable ecosystem to create businesses".

The university's Master in Entrepreneurship and Innovation was first introduced in 2007 and Luxembourg has also seen the rise of entrepreneurship projects such as the House of Entrepreneurship, the House of Startups, nyuko and the Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (Lhoft).

General Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Carlo Thelen, said the partnership for the master programme was in line with the chamber's mission to encourage and promote entrepreneurship, which he described as "a powerful vector contributing to the socio-economic development and competitiveness of the country".

Since the Chivas Venture first launched in 2014, almost 6000 social enterprises have applied for the chance to receive a share of the annual $1 million fund. (This year, 29 countries / 5 continents).

“We expect to see new projects, ideas and approaches especially knowing that the country (Luxembourg) has one of the highest rate in Europe of start-ups registered as having a social, societal or environmental activity.”

Ultimately, our goals remain the same: to help elevate the profile of social entrepreneurs from around the world, create tangible change by providing the most promising one’s  with funding and support to grow their business, and to act as a catalyst to grow this important movement.

By opening the competition to Luxembourg, we expect to see new projects, ideas and approaches especially knowing that the country (Luxembourg) has one of the highest rate in Europe of start-ups registered as having a social, societal or environmental activity.

De jeunes entrepreneurs «prêts pour le business»
Lancée l'année dernière, la House of Entrepreneurship «doit atteindre sa vitesse de croisière façon TGV, et devenir un guichet unique pour les personnes qui souhaitent lancer ou développer une entreprise», a expliqué Carlo Thelen, directeur général de la Chambre de Commerce, lors de la présentation du bilan 2016 ce lundi matin. Signe de l'intérêt des chefs d'entreprises et autres entrepreneurs, près de 20 000 contacts physiques, téléphoniques et e-mails ont été répertoriés sur la période 2016-2017, soit 66% de plus qu'en 2015-2016.

«Il y a beaucoup de jeunes qui se lancent dans l'ICT mais le secteur de l'Horesca est aussi largement représenté avec des projets de bars ou encore de restaurants», souligne Carlo Thelen. La House of Entrepreneurship livre toutes sortes de conseils aux entrepreneurs sur les procédures, mais favorise également le financement des projets grâce à la mutualité de cautionnement.

Près d’un an et demi après le dépôt du projet de loi, les députés ont voté mercredi en faveur de l’introduction d’un nouveau statut de société – simplifié -  dans le droit luxembourgeois, pensé pour encourager l’entrepreneuriat. Selon les prévisions, les dispositions entreront en vigueur le 16 janvier 2017.

Rund 60 “Mini-Entreprises” hatten am Samstag ihren gemeinsamen Verkaufstag in der Belle Etoile. Jede “Mini-Entreprise” ist ein kleines Unternehmen, das von einer Gruppe von Schülern (16 bis 19 Jahre alt) gegründet wurde. Angeboten werden die unterschiedlichsten Produkte und Dienstleistungen.

Bei den “Mini-Entreprises” handelt es sich um ein Schulfach – oder um Schüler, die neben der Schule ein Projekt durchführen. Rund 500 Schüler aus unterschiedlichen Bildungseinrichtungen waren dieses Jahr mit dabei. Die Schüler müssen eine Idee entwickeln, einen Geschäftsplan aufstellen, Werbung machen. Jeder Gruppe steht ein Geschäftsmann als Coach zur Seite.

Ziel der Organisatoren ist das Fördern des Unternehmergeistes, wie Pitt Schneider von der Vereinigung “Jonk Entrepreneuren Luxembourg” erläutert. Und die Mini-Unternehmen dürfen sich über wachsenden Erfolg freuen – letztes Jahr waren 51 Gruppen vertreten. Im Jahr zuvor waren es rund 40.

Inkubator für Start-ups bereit für das neue „House of Start-ups“
Der Inkubator für Start-ups, Nyuko aus Hollerich, zieht um in das neue „House of Start-ups“. Die unabhängige, nicht-gewinnorientierte Initiative zur Unterstützung von Start-ups und Unternehmen will Ende März oder Anfang April dort seine Räume beziehen. Das war geplant. Der Eigentümer Roland Kuhn, „Administrateur Délégué“ des ältesten Baugeschäfts in Luxemburg, Kuhn Construction S.A., wird die Räume in der Hollericher Straße anderweitig nutzen. Durch Neubauten verändert sich derzeit das Gesicht der Straße, dabei stehen noch weitere durch Paul Wurth und Heintz van Landewyck an.

„Nyuko“ steht für „new / you / co-“ und verweist auf den Charakter des Zusammenarbeitens verschiedener Experten Berater, Mentoren und Coaches. Vorgänger waren Initiativen der Handelskammer wie „1,2,3 GO“ und „1,2,3 GO Social“ sowie die „Impactory“, ein „Coworking Space“, die Hedda Pahlson-Moller ins Leben gerufen hatte.

Luxembourg's entrepreneurs -- people running their own business for three months to 42 months -- made up 9.2% of the working population last year, Statec, the country's statistics office, said on Tuesday.

That compares with a European average of 8.6% and stable compared with previous years, Statec said in a statement. The study was carried out by the Economy Ministry and Chamber of Commerce as part of the international Global Entrepreneurship Monitoring (GEM) programme. 

"People running entrepreneurial enterprises in Luxembourg are primarily motivated by the desire for independence rather than economic necessity," Statec said. "The main aids to Luxembourg entrepreneurship are infrastructure -- physical and immaterial -- and the barriers are a shortage of office space and qualified employees."

Attend Startup Weekend Luxembourg on November 24th, 2017 in Luxembourg. Learn to build a startup by being an entrepreneur!

Preparations are underway for the House of Start-Ups, the future home of nyuko, the Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT) and the Luxembourg City incubator. 

Set to open its doors in the first quarter of 2018, the House of Start-Ups welcomes entrepreneurs active in a variety of sectors, from tourism and urban development, to information and communications technology, as well as fintech.

Spanning some 5,000 square meters, over four floors, the incubator for start-ups will be based inside the Dôme building on rue du Laboratoire, in Luxembourg City.

Le ministre de l'Éducation nationale, de l'Enfance et de la Jeunesse, Claude Meisch, et la secrétaire d’État à l’Économie, Francine Closener, ont présenté le 7 novembre 2016 le projet "Promotion de l'entrepreneuriat à l'enseignement secondaire".

Il s’agit de favoriser l'émergence d’"entrepreneurial schools" au Luxembourg, c'est-à-dire de lycées qui ne favorisent pas seulement le lien avec le monde économique et social qui les entoure, mais qui amènent aussi les élèves à développer les compétences transversales leur permettant de s'engager à l'avenir à travers des défis entrepreneuriaux.

On Thursday 6 October 2016, Luxembourg's House of Entrepreneurship was inaugurated in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

Located in front of the Chamber of Commerce, and direct neighbour of the House of Finance, the new home of entrepreneurship has been given the mandate to operate as a one-stop shop offering customised consulting assistance to all project developers wishing to embark on the adventure of creating a business, as well as all the already active entrepreneurs wishing to develop or sell their business.

6zero1 is a new space for work, advice and training in Luxembourg, whose mission is to contribute to the creation of sustainable jobs through a web of sustainable and economically viable social enterprises.

Through a customised incubation programme, 6zero1 is the structure in Luxembourg likely to accompany social entrepreneurs throughout the process of creating and launching their social or societal activities.

Being itself a social enterprise, 6zero1 is intended to be the very first social enterprise in Luxembourg to take the form of a societal impact company (société d'impact sociétal, SIS) upon the entry into force of the draft law creating societal impact companies (parl. doc. No 6831) - hence the name of the very first SIS ("6" for short): SIS No 01 = 6zero1.

Militant depuis près de 10 ans pour la sàrl-s, ou «sàrl à 1 euro», la Chambre de commerce s’est félicitée dès hier soir de la décision des parlementaires de consacrer ce nouvel outil destiné à promouvoir l’entrepreneuriat, notamment auprès des jeunes.

Votre tremplin vers l'entrepreneuriat
« Fit4Entrepreneurship » est une initiative à destination des demandeurs d’emploi qui souhaitent se lancer dans un projet d’affaires. Le projet apporte un soutien adapté aux porteurs de projet et ce à travers un diagnostic des compétences entrepreneuriales, un programme de formation ainsi qu’un accompagnement individuel par des chefs d’entreprise. Le programme est piloté par le Chambre de Commerce en collaboration avec l’Adem et la Chambre des Métiers et avec le soutien du Fonds Social Européen. Il complète l’écosystème entrepreneurial en créant des passerelles vers d’autres initiatives pour le suivi des porteurs à l’issue du projet.
