PRICE LEVELS

Looking at services and other consumer goods, prices in Luxembourg appear higher than in other European countries.

Electricity and gas prices reach record levels in 2019. A household of 2 people must spend about 250 euros per month of electricity and heating. Internet subscription costs about 50 euros per month on average, depending on the speed.

On average, it costs 17 euros for a meal in an ordinary restaurant and 3 euros for a coffee.

In the supermarket, 2.5 kg of potatoes will cost you about 4 euros, 1 kg of tomatoes or apples 3 euros. One kg of minced beef will cost 17 euros, 1 litre of milk 80 cents and a box of 12 eggs about 3 euros. You will find the shampoo bottle at 4 euros and the shower gel at 2 euros.

Some products are cheaper than in neighbouring countries. This is the case with alcohol (1 bottle of crémant of 75 cl is at 7 euros). Tobacco costs 5 euros per pack. This is also the case for fuels. A litre of petrol will cost you about 1.2 euro/litre, while 1 litre of diesel will cost 1.05 euro/litre.

The cinema session costs 10 euros for an adult. The sports subscription will cost about 45 euros per month and admission to the museum 5 euros.

The price of the bus ticket is 2 euros, before the introduction of free public transport in 2020.
