The World's Most Productive Countries
The latest figures are now available for Expert Market’s annual analysis of the world’s most (and least) productive countries. The report investigates levels of productivity in over 35 countries across the world, to gauge which nation has the most effective financial return during the least amount of working hours.

Productivity levels are determined as GDP per capita data divided by the average number of hours worked in the nation, with data used from the International Monetary Fund and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Selon une étude d’Expert Market, le Luxembourg est le pays le plus productif au monde. Le site comparatif de fournisseurs pour professionnels a calculé la productivité de 36 pays en divisant le PIB par habitant par le nombre d’heures travaillées.

Résultat, le Grand-Duché se classe à la première position devant la Norvège, l’Australie et la Suisse. Le Luxembourg produit selon l’étude, pour 53,75 euros par heure et par personne, soit près de 10 euros de plus que la Norvège, classée seconde. «Cet exploit» est d’autant plus important que le Grand-Duché arrive à la dixième place des pays travaillant le moins, tandis que la Norvège est troisième. En moyenne annuelle, les travailleurs au Luxembourg accumulent 1643 heures de travail.

The U.S. isn't at the top of the list

With a new law barring work e-mail after hours, the French have honored a truth long recognized by economists: working longer hours doesn’t necessarily result in increased productivity. Mexico—the least productive of the 38 countries listed in 2015 data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)—has the world’s longest average work week at 41.2 hours (including full-time and part-time workers). At the other end of the spectrum, Luxembourg, the most productive country, has an average workweek of just 29 hours.

The United States ranks fifth, according to the OECD, contributing $68.30 to the country’s GDP per hour worked, countering claims that Americans are the most productive workers in the world. America put in more hours—33.6 per week on average—than all four of the European countries with higher productivity rankings.
