SpaceX is sending signals back to the Trump administration and NASA in kind. Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, said in an interview last week that he believes his company’s spacecraft, could return humans to the moon’s surface sooner than everyone might expect. Despite the acknowledgement of how crazy this initiative would be, he was clear that within two years the mission could be done successfully.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has recently published new renders of what a possible Moon or Mars colony would look like once the private space company sets up its base outside of Earth, with company's updated stainless steel Starship, offering glimpses of the spacecraft on both the Moon and Mars

Elon Musk said in a recent Time.com interview " ...This is gonna sound pretty crazy, but I think we could land on the moon in less than two years. Certainly with an uncrewed vehicle I believe we could land on the moon in two years. So then maybe within a year or two of that we could be sending crew. I would say four years at the outside."

As the founder, CEO and lead designer at SpaceX, a private company that makes rockets and spacecraft, Elon Musk envisions a time when his reusable rockets will bring people to the moon and Mars. He's focused on humans becoming a "multi-planet species," and on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, he speaks with Jeffrey Kluger (editor-at-large at Time magazine, and the co-author of "Apollo 13") about his vision for the future.
