Google gets payments licence in Ireland

Google gets payments licence in Ireland | Payments Ecosystem | Scoop.it
Ireland's central bank has granted authorisation for Google to operate as a payments institution, a move that could see the big tech giant significantly expand its financial services offerings across the European Union.
Vineet Anand's insight:

Google Pay to offer payment issuing and acquiring services in EU under license issued by Ireland! License does not cover loans and bank accounts under PSD2. Google already has a full e-Money license in Lithuania.

The competition between banks, Neo-banks and tech companies will likely reduce fragmented payments space for the consumer in near future.

Apple in Talks with U.S. Banks to Develop Person-to-Person Payment Service Like Venmo

Apple in Talks with U.S. Banks to Develop Person-to-Person Payment Service Like Venmo | Payments Ecosystem | Scoop.it
Apple is in discussions with U.S. banks to develop a mobile person-to-person payment service that would compete with PayPal’s popular Venmo platform, according to people familiar with the talks.
Vineet Anand's insight:

As predicted last year, I had suggested the next step for Apple Pay will be to offer P2P payments and seems like Apple is working towards finding a solutions. Venmo has 19% of P2P mobile market today popular with millennials using its vast array of emoticons to pay for bills, rent, and shared expenses.

P2P is on offer with Google Wallet, PayPal, Square $cashtag,

Facebook messenger P2P and recently ClearXchange opened its network for use with use of email address or phone number!

Apple's Wallet strategy to bring loyalty and P2P are part of the experience in an attempting to develop in  bringing greater usage of the Apple Wallet. Sending a iMessage with funds, PFM and Bill Payments will follow suit at some stage!

Personal finance management tools and services will add more value to the Apple Wallet with its devout iOS users.

Samsung Pay lines up card schemes and banks for launch

Samsung Pay lines up card schemes and banks for launch | Payments Ecosystem | Scoop.it
Finextra: Samsung will introduce its mobile payments service in South Korea later this month, with Visa, MasterCard and several major banks onboard for a US launch in September.
Vineet Anand's insight:

Samsung Pay launches in Korea on Aug 20; Us Sep 28 and UK, Spain and China to follow suit. Galaxy S6 and edge phones along with Note5 to support Samsung Pay.

Four key developments happening as we come to the end of 2015 summer:

  • Interesting to see Android phone manufactured by Samsung (S6 and others) with NFC capability will allow the user to choose between Samsung Pay or Android Pay for NFC?
  • Customer choice will become an increasing area of focus in coming year as Paypal, Android, Samsung offer NFC payment services across Samsung NFC phone. Contactless acceptance is increasing at a rapid pace and it will drive usage in both Apple Pay and NON-APPLE Pay devices.
  • Android Pay can likely win in the space of non-Apple Pay devices with an offering that supports mobile buy buttons from search and building a good loyalty/coupon aggregator application which is universal across customer preferred merchants.
  • MCX / CurrentC - I feel more confident that the plug on this capability before Q1/2016 ends. It might end up being an option to choose across payments forms including the 'Pays' of Apple, Android, Samsung, Paypal Or might just be retained for creating a cross-merchant loyalty application, similar to Plenti however for use across the MCX universe of merchants.

Why Is Almost No One Using Apple Pay?

Why Is Almost No One Using Apple Pay? | Payments Ecosystem | Scoop.it
Why don’t small merchants accept Apple Pay? That’s easy. Just follow the money.
Vineet Anand's insight:

Forbes author Gene survey indicates 87% of small merchants are not accept Apple Pay and the key driver being lack of incentives for adoption. Upcoming loyalty application will not bring adoption with the SME's that are seeking low cost payment forms. Will Apple Pay be a experience for the high-end smart-phone user at large merchant locations only?

Patrice Meilland's comment, June 7, 2015 4:12 AM
successfully motivating and building up the ecosystem is becoming paramount in a connected world, and many great ideas or solutions have failed on this account. let's see ifApple can turn this one around !
Vineet Anand's comment, June 7, 2015 2:26 PM
Patrice - you are spot on the the need to create the ecosystem that has good subscription from merchants and Apple phone users. With the onset of Samsung Pay, Andriod Pay, and Paypal - there will be a growth on paying with mobile phones, however it will take time for phone user adoption as current user experience is very similar to taking out a card at POS. Loyalty and coupons within the apps can generate greater traction - Android Pay is touting that capability and Apple will launch its Apple Pay2.0.
