Four interview questions designed to trip you up - U-T San Diego | Interview Advice & Tips | Scoop.it
Four interview questions designed to trip you up U-T San Diego Oliver is the bestselling author of five career development books, including “301 Smart Answers to Tough Interview Questions,” and “301 Smart Answers to Tough Business Etiquette...
Trish Sadar's insight:

Nice article.  I always asked these type of questions as behavioral interviews.  What I mean by that is that I asked....What did you do when, etc. or  Describe a time when someone took credit for your work...what did you do?

Candidate's past responses or behaviors surrounding specific themes are good indicators of how someone would handle a situation in the future.

My humble advice:  Have a few learning stories that you can re-position into a few categories.  Think ahead about the situations.  To keep yourself concise in the interview, remember this:  CAR

C - Describe the circumstances briefly

A - Describe the actions you took and who you involved

R - Describe the results that took place

5 Phrases Guaranteed To End Any Job Interview

5 Phrases Guaranteed To End Any Job Interview | Interview Advice & Tips | Scoop.it
Got a job interview coming up? It's important to be prepared! Here are 5 phrases you need to avoid at all costs!
Trish Sadar's insight:

Great article!  In addition to the phrases: I also suggest to avoid using the word "no" during the screening interview.

The goal is to anticipate the questions, and to be prepared with alternatives and solutions.  For example, instead of saying no, I can't do that, no, I am not familiar with..  You should be able to say....I am familiar with xyz system, while I have not used at work before, it is very similar to abc system which I am currently using.  Or, I am currently taking classes on advanced excel and if hired I would be able to hit the ground running.
