One of the beliefs of lots of home owners is that you can put on and addition or make a significant improvement and every dollar will come back to you. Unfortunately this is not the case. In fact it can be far from it.
There are times when people over improve their homes. Have you ever driven into a neighborhood where all the homes are consistent until you arrive upon the white elephant? I don't even mean that the home looks bad but just out of place. It may be beautiful but belongs in a much more expensive neighborhood!
This is the classic example of someone who has probably over improved based on their neighborhood. There are many other examples just like this one.
Who can help in a situation like this? If you guessed a local appraiser or real estate agent you are correct. Hiring professionals who can evaluate your circumstances is always a smart move. It is certainly possible you will make financial mistakes that you will regret later on.
