Articles about PSYCHOLOGY http://www.scoop.it/t/science-news?tag=psychology

Devon Clarke's curator insight, October 26, 2014 2:39 PM

Healthy brain development in children deals with a lot of factors, but happiness is one key thing to leading a child to be successful. In this article it describes how happy adolescents tend to become more successful when they are older and obtain higher wages (Doward & Graaf, 2012). I found this article to link well to an academic journal looking at if the sensitivity of parents led to having kind children  (Newton & Laible, 2014, p. 1808). It concluded that yes kind parenting skills do lead to having children who are more competent apposed to parents that are not as kind  (Newton & Laible, 2014, p. 1812). I think this academic journal links well to this article because it gives the realization that a child's happiness can directly related to their parents and how they are treated. This article also links well to Exploring Psychology in Modules in module 10 talking about different parenting styles (Myers & Myers, 2008, p. 149). The parenting style that they suggest to be the most effective for a child's self-esteem and social competences are those who are authoritative parents (Myers & Myers, 2008, p. 149). As Oswelt stated in Benefits of High Healthy Self-Esteem children who have higher self-esteems tend to be happier and have good relationships with friends (Oswelt, n.d.). It is important to make sure that a child has positive role models to make sure their happiness comes first. This article seemed to use good scientific reasoning giving good examples throughout the article (Doward & Graaf, 2012). The two publishers of the article also had good backgrounds and sources for where they got their information. One diverse group that this article has left out children who don't grow up in a healthy stable home environment. If a child is in an unstable setting it could lead to the possibility of a depressed child.
