Scientists Propose Creating Clouds to Slow Warming

Scientists Propose Creating Clouds to Slow Warming | Science News | Scoop.it

Scientists from the University of Washington recently unveiled a new take on an old proposal to cool the Earth by artificially producing cloud cover over swaths of ocean to reflect away light, part of a process known as 'marine cloud brightening'.

Reaching a Comfort Level With Geoengineering

“Decision makers later in the century could find themselves in a situation where geoengineering is the only recourse,” the author, Robert L. Olson, a senior fellow at the Institute for Alternative Futures, writes. So they should be thinking now about geoengineering techniques like removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere or reducing the amount of sunshine that reaches Earth by, say, injecting aerosols into the atmosphere to make the planet more reflective, he suggests. “At the very least,” the new report says, “we need to know what approaches to avoid even if desperate.”

Sunshade geoengineering more likely to improve global food security, research suggests

Sunshade geoengineering more likely to improve global food security, research suggests | Science News | Scoop.it

Carbon dioxide emissions from the burning of coal, oil, and gas have been increasing over the past decades, causing Earth to get hotter and hotter. There are concerns that a continuation of these trends could have catastrophic effects, including crop failures in the heat-stressed tropics. This has led some to explore drastic ideas for combating global warming, including the idea of trying to counteract it by reflecting sunlight away from Earth. However, it has been suggested that reflecting sunlight away from Earth might itself threaten the food supply of billions of people.

SUNSHADE ENGINEERING IS CRIMINAL - THIS IS A MISGUIDED ATTEMPT BY IDIOTS AND CRIMINALS WHO THINK THEY CAN DUMP TONS OF POISONS INTO OUR AIR WITH LITTLE REGARD TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS. SUNSHADE ENGINEERING IS CRIMINAL

(AP) -- Brighten clouds with sea water? Spray aerosols high in the stratosphere? Paint roofs white and plant light-colored crops? How about positioning 'sun shades' over the Earth?
