[VIDEO] The Cockroach Controlled Mobile Robot

A description of the Cockroach Controlled Mobile Robot, by Garnet Hertz: "Cockroach Controlled Mobile Robot" is an experimental mechanism that uses a living Madagascan hissing cockroach atop a modified trackball to control a three-wheeled robot. If the cockroach moves left, the robot moves left. Infrared sensors also provide navigation feedback to the cockroach, striving to create a pseudo-intelligent system with the cockroach as the CPU

Video: Rescuing Disaster Victims With Snake Robots Deployed By Dogs | Popular Science | Science News | Scoop.it

A new project at Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute combines two of my favorite things, dogs and robots, to build an animal-machine rescue system that could conceivably improve a trapped victim’s survival odds after an earthquake or some other disaster. It would work by strapping a snakebot to a trained search-and-rescue dog, Saint Bernard collar-keg-style, and letting the dog loose to find survivors.

Printable Robots

This video shows three of the first devices to be prototyped at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) using a new technology that could make it possible for the average person to design, customize and print a specialized robot in a matter of hours. MIT is leading an ambitious new project to reinvent how robots are produced and designed, funded by a $10 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
