A Quiver of Teaching Strategies (Not Just One Silver Bullet)

A Quiver of Teaching Strategies (Not Just One Silver Bullet) | Teaching Methodologies | Scoop.it

To develop a class of risk takers, administrators need to encourage faculty to try new teaching strategies so they model for their students risk taking, flexibility, and resilience when failure happens.

THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS OF THE 0NE TO 0NE LESSON, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LEARNER

THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS OF THE 0NE TO 0NE LESSON, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LEARNER | Teaching Methodologies | Scoop.it
They say that teachers make the worst students to which I can attest myself. As much as I encourage my own students to study hard and go the extra mile, I've rounded up 7 things that I found really did not work for me personally when I was a language student and have influenced my approach to teaching accordingly.

Teaching Mixed Ability Classes - How Can We Teach More Of Our Students More Of The Time?

Teaching Mixed Ability Classes - How Can We Teach More Of Our Students More Of The Time? | Teaching Methodologies | Scoop.it
To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln (via Penny Ur),

You can teach some of the students all of the time, or all of the students
some of the time. But you can’t teach all of the students all of the time.

Why not? Because most classes are mixed level. Some students learn faster
than others, some write better than others, some are quieter than others.
So the question we need to ask ourselves is…

How can we teach more of our students more of the time?

We can teach more of our students more of the time by making our mixed
level classes “MIXED” (by using Materials, Instructions, eXpectations,
Evaluation, Discipline).
