Artificial Intelligence isn’t only limited to powerful supercomputers and big devices; it is also becoming a part and parcel of smartphones and wearable devices and equipment. Edge computing is emerging as the next big area in AI.

WHY IT MATTERS: the world economic forum provides a trove of useful data and analysis on topics related to the 4th industrial revolution. It provides useful insight into key digital technologies related to that topics as well.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution is about more than just technology-driven change; it is an opportunity to help everyone, including leaders, policy-makers and people from all income groups and nations, to harness converging technologies in order to create an inclusive, human-centred future. The real opportunity is to look beyond technology, and find ways to give the greatest number of people the ability to positively impact their families, organisations and communities.

This article addresses how as teachers we need to shift to personalized learning environments for our students. Note the comments at the end of differing opinions whether or not this really can work in a regular classroom.

Engaging article. When I was growing up we had a TV show called "Towards 2000 and Beyond 2000". Now that we are in the 2000's I am astounded at what is on the horizon (and maybe a little frightened).

This connects to the physical geography of Israel as it was once incredibly dry, facing a decade long drought. This ruined the agriculture sector of their economy as well, along with changing the people's way of life. However, desalination has saved the country, and Israel really had no other choice. Instead, the country is now a water giant, and has an overabundance through new technologies.

I have rescooped this resource from @Rebecca White as it is a great resource for teaching the Design and technology strand and incorporates sustainability. The website focuses on design thinking, 21st century learning skills, design learning research, curriculum frameworks, project based learning and engaging today’s students. It links with the Australian Curriculum for technology including design technology as it is build student computational thinking by getting them to create and evaluate projects which aims towards creating preferred futures.

This is the background information for competitions that are coordinated between designers and educators to promote students thinking about how to solve real world problems using design. There are links provided to sample problems and challenges suited for Prep to Year 4 levels as well as more in depth concepts for high school students, such as designing jobs for 2050. Interesting read and plenty of information to be explored. |
Round of AI movements across the American industry.
First was big data, and then came cloud, then the machine learning frenzy. We reached peak machine learning in 2017.
Last year investors pumped in over $15.2B in funding to AI startups across multiple industries. It was a 141% spike in funding from 2016. Over 1,100 new AI companies have raised their first rounds of funding since 2016. And that’s more than half the historic number of AI startups that have ever raised an equity round. The normalization and mainstreaming of machine learning will make investors picky about the AI companies they fund.
