Is This Black Powder the Secret Solution to EV Charging Woes? | by Emily Dreibelbis | PCMag.com

Plugging in our phones at night and monitoring their percentage throughout the day is a fixture of modern life, and the push toward electric cars stands to create even more charging anxiety. But battery materials company Group14 has developed a silicon material that could make these obsessive habits something to laugh about in the future.

If you follow battery technology, you may roll your eyes at another headline about a "revolutionary" new formula, and to be fair, Group14 makes some familiar claims. All of them say they have a "breakthrough" that will help batteries hold two times the amount of energy—an EV with a 300-mile range would have 600; your phone battery could last multiple days—and charge in minutes.

SpaceX's unit Starlink secures Indonesia operating permit | by Ananda Teresia | Reuters.com

JAKARTA, May 8 (Reuters) - The satellite unit of Elon Musk's SpaceX has secured a permit to operate in Indonesia, the communications minister told Reuters on Wednesday.

Starlink had obtained a permit to operate as an internet service provider for retail consumers and had been given the go-ahead to provide networks, having received a very small aperture terminal (VSAT) permit, minister Budi Arie Setiadi said in an interview.

Indonesia is the third country in Southeast Asia where Starlink will operate. Malaysia issued the firm a license to provide internet services last year and a Philippine-based firm signed a deal with SpaceX in 2022.

China issues draft rules to regulate booming lithium battery expansion | Reuters.com

BEIJING, May 8 (Reuters) - China issued draft rules on Wednesday to regulate its lithium battery market, after rapid expansion in the sector hit industry profits and sparked concerns about overcapacity in international market.

The proposals, issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, are intended to safeguard the healthy development of the lithium battery sector, the ministry said.

The rules would guide lithium battery firms to reduce manufacturing projects that 'purely' expand production capacity.
