Dun & Bradstreet, a provider of data and analytics services, has purchased NetProspex, a provider of B2B marketing data management services, for $125 million.

 

The pairing of NetProspex’s data services platform and its approach to measuring data quality with Dun & Bradstreet’s global commercial database positions B2B marketers to gain deeper insights into their target audiences, The move aims to provide a single source to help B2B marketers identify, analyze and prioritize opportunities.

 

NetProspex will continue to operate out of its headquarters located in Massachusetts and its employees are now part of Dunn & Bradstreet. The company’s CEO Michael Bird will become the general manager of the rebranded “Dun & Bradstreet NetProspex” and will report to Josh Peirez, COO of Dun & Bradstreet.

List buying is dead

The truth of a topic is often gradient, nuanced. List buying is no different. List buys of questionable sourcing and quality are coming to an end. However, responsible marketers can still grow their list by purchasing data from affiliates and via other non-organic methods.

 

Organically building a list is slow

Organically building lists was difficult in the past largely because of a lack of options and resources on the marketer's part. Now, in the age of the increasingly vocal customer—and social media—taking a more organic approach to building lists is a perfectly viable option.

 

A large list is more powerful

Email service providers have grown increasingly intolerant of spam tactics, many of which revolve around reaching as many inboxes as possible. Ethics issues aside, the data and technology that has flooded the marketing space has made maintaining large lists more trouble than the effort is worth.

Once a Hushly member has downloaded vendor content, vendors can send emails to the member via Hushly.  This allows communication without the vendor actually receiving the member's email address.  Members can block messages from a vendor if they wish. 

Hushly also lets members send questions to vendors and receive answers through the system, still without revealing their identity. They can even contact competitive vendors with the same protection. The system lets members send a list of questions to multiple vendors and tabulates the results, allowing more detailed anonymous research.
