Kenya has kicked off a fresh drive to develop a robust curriculum for technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions to boost graduate employability.

Kenya’s Cabinet has re-established the TVET Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council (CDACC) which had been abolished two years ago.

The council is mandated to undertake the design and development of curricula for the training institutions’ examination, assessment and competence certification and advise the government on policy interventions.

The analysis shows that co-op students have a higher level of competence than vocational students. In addition, we found that in our sample social background has no impact on digital competences. The results are discussed and classified in the context of the current state of research.

Canada/Manitoba. Province Introduces Proposed Changes to The Private Vocational Institutions Act

The Private Vocational Institutions Amendment Act would require schools to post more information publically, such as tuition fees and employment rates.  It would reduce regulatory requirements by eliminating unnecessary forms and duplication, and allowing for processes such as multi-year renewals.  It would establish a staged appeal process and provide government with a progressive compliance framework to ensure program quality and protect students.

The Mozambique government has proposed that companies in the public and private sector should be obliged to contribute 1% of their payrolls to finance vocational education institutions in the country.

The reason is that Mozambique companies and public bodies are struggling to recruit quality Mozambican graduates, forcing managers in ongoing major projects on gas and mining to hire ex-pats from the foreign labour market. This is an expensive solution that does not deliver opportunities to Mozambique graduates, and hence, something the government wants to change.

This article reports results from a Learning study in which two university based researchers collaborate with a vocational teacher at an upper secondary vocational school. The analyses highlights concrete changes in the teacher’s teaching, and it is argued that the approach used in the study can lead to a development where we can find forms for teaching specific subject content within vocational education.
