It seems that the onset of a new decade is enough to get a lot of folk involved with ed tech questioning its position in the grand scheme of things. There seems to be a whiff of gloom and despondency in the air? I give you the amazing ‘The 100 Worst Ed-Tech Debacles of the Decade‘ piece from Audrey Watters of Hack Education, and Dean Shareski’s ‘I Don’t Think I’m an EdTech Guy Anymore‘ thoughtful reflection as starters for 10.

Integrating Technology in the Classroom

Integrating Technology in the Classroom | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

There are many technology-based tools that can be helpful for classroom teachers, and sorting through them to find ones that may be useful can be challenging. This web page describes pedagogical categories of technology tools for teachers; an infographic of useful technology tools (PDF, 275KB) grouped by the categories below is also available  so that teachers can more easily identify which technology tools may be of use to them. Teachers who may not use technology might want to start with just one tool, while those who are more familiar with some technology are encouraged to try a new tool that suits their classroom purposes.

Practicing Collaborative Digital Pedagogy to Foster Digital Literacies in Humanities Classrooms

Practicing Collaborative Digital Pedagogy to Foster Digital Literacies in Humanities Classrooms | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Key Takeaways
New digital tools and platforms create opportunities in pedagogy, but they also result in deployment of under-tested digital tools in classroom instruction, which raises questions and challenges for educators.
A collaborative project between a media studies professor and a digital humanities librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign sought to address these challenges by developing digital pedagogy practices.
As the two case studies described here show, these practices can foster an environment of interdisciplinary, collaborative student engagement with new tools; openly acknowledge the digital tools' experimental states; and encourage playful student tinkering with the tools, even when they appear simple or familiar.

The divergence between digital and education - Neil Mosley

Surely our prime focus needs to be on education in the broadest sense and equipping our educators with the skills, knowledge, rewards, support and time to develop pedagogies that are effective, learner centred and evidence based. Tapping into and fostering intrinsic motivations to be the best educator you can be. This and a gradual changing of culture and value placed on learning and teaching provides the foundation and platform for genuine, lasting and positive transformation, technology is just and will always be a supplement to that.

Using Digital Learning to Trick Students into Thinking?

Using Digital Learning to Trick Students into Thinking? | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

"Many students look at online learning courses as a respite from the rigors of brick-and-mortar learning, but that’s only true if educators and administrators choose not to maximize the digital learning environment to challenge their student populace.  While digital learning has its limitations and flaws, it can also be used as a powerful tool to stimulate critical thinking in students. In fact, there are plenty of ways to induce such propensities for critical thought without a student even being aware of it!"

"Over the past two years, I have been blessed to partner with District 205 in Elmhurst, IL. I still vividly remember having lunch with Dave Moyer, the superintendent, where he explained in detail the vision that had been set for the district, centered around the six C's (collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, character, citizenship) ..."

When we started the intention was to make it distinct from the NMC New Horizon reports by focusing on pedagogy. I think, to be honest, in those early ones there was probably a technology focus still, but as it’s progressed it has really moved away from this to more pedagogy, socially focused issues.
