Autonomous public transport by Proterra | TheTechNews | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Do you remember the company that built an electric bus which was able to drive 350 miles before needing a recharge? Now the same company wants to revolutionize public transport system for the future. They want to incorporate autonomous technology with public transport. Proterra has launched an autonomous driving program to help develop self-driving electric buses in Reno, for this they partnered up with the University of Nevada. The idea itself to the core is fairly easy but implementing the idea will be very complicated because the Proterra buses will serve the public and with that comes new strict laws which very different from private autonomous vehicles. So most probably autonomous bus lines will probably never run without a human co-pilot, said Proterra’s CEO.
