Great insight coming at a great time! I just said to a colleague I have about 5 days worth of content ready for a two and a half hour training! How to scale back is always my dilemma. Especially in introductory classes - how much is enough to get people going? I appreciate this post and will refer to it often.

This infographic (from Knewton) provides an overview of differentiation. It is divided into the following sections. * What is differentiated instruction? * Why differentiated instruction? * Differentiated instruction in schools * Differentiated instruction at scale Learning how to differentiate instruction effectively is not always easy, but it is a skill that we need to learn. This infographic provides an overview that may be helpful for you as a teacher, and it might be a good way to introduce parents to this concept if it is new to them.

Why should you check out Skoolbo? Because they are offering a "Forever Free" license to schools that register by Sept. 30, 2014. Skoobo is geared to elementary school (and states that they find the best results in students 8 and younger) that provides online games in the areas of numeracy and literacy. Some of the features that may be of interest include: * A "Spiral Learning Algorithm' - The first time a student uses Skoolbo they will take a test that will help place them a the appropriate level. After each game is completed the program will reassess, essentially differentiating work for each student. Teachers may also assign specific curriculum. * Students get immediate feedback and support through the program. * The program is cross platform and can be used on PC, Mac, iPad, Windows 8, Android and web browsers. * And remember, it is free (at least until Sept. 30, 2014)! So head over to Skoobo to check this out. Share it with other teachers you know in elementary school. And if you get it for your school make sure to let parents know.

I find it challenging to work out how to differentiate (or whether I am differentiating) lessons in secondary school classes where everything is driven by the needs of an examination system. This idea, that there are multiple incarnations of differentiation, I find quite helpful.

We hopefully are all trying to differentiate, but sometimes we need that creative push and encouragement. This is a wonderful resource with printable infographics for coming work areas and links to concepts and other resources to really get you thinking in every direction outside of the box - each student will gain something out of you using this.

Are you looking for tools that provide you with the opportunity to create rich, multimedia lessons and that support differentiation? The ThingLink Challenge that has been running this summer had one week that focused on using audio as well as ThingLink (for images and/or video) to design a learning experience. This post from Susan Oxnevad provides great resources. She has embedded a video from CAST that discussed Universal Design for Learning and has links to resources as you watch. Just pause the video and check out the link! You can also check out "Turn it Up with Audioboo on Padlet." This page provides access to a range of ThingLink projects that have audio links. You will need to click on the title of the image, which will take you to a page with a larger view, and on the lower right hand side you should see the word Source (in red) that will take you to the actual ThingLink page.

Carol Ann Tomlinson has recently published the 2nd edition of her book Differentiated Classroom: Responding to the Needs of All Learners. The infographic above (which may be downloaded as a pdf) provides a great visual that helps you understand what is differentiation, and what is not differentiation. You may also read a copy of Chapter 1 of this book by clicking HERE. The need differentiate our instruction is critical for many students. This poster will assist you by providing a quick look at best practices that we should be using with our students. The first chapter provides an overview and is called What is Differentiated Classroom?
