If you’ve ever wondered what type of plant you have on your desk, or what breed of dog is currently jumping on you at the park, you don’t need to guess. This isn’t the ‘90s. In 2022, we have the technology to point our iPhones at mysterious things and figure out what they are in seconds—you just need to know how to use it.
OS 14.5 is the next version of iOS, and while it won’t be as big an update as iOS 15, which isn’t expected to land in finished form until September, it’s still set to add a bunch of new features and improvements.
We know this because iOS 14.5 is already in beta, so developers and members of the public have turned up all sorts of interesting additions.
Below then we’ve highlighted the five best things we’re expecting in iOS 14.5. It’s worth noting that there’s a chance some of these things won’t turn up, as occasionally features in beta don’t make it to the finished release, but we’d certainly expect most of them.
We’ve also included information on when iOS 14.5 is likely to land, so that those who don’t want to brave the beta will know how long they have to wait.
"If you have a Mac and an iPhone, you can now make phone calls from your Mac using that iPhone. The phone call will sound through the Mac speakers and use the Mac microphone, but the actual call itself routes through the iPhone. This is a part of the Continuity suite, which is really nice feature set in newer versions of iOS and Mac OS X that allow for seamless transition between Macs and iPhones and iPads. Phone calling from the Mac is quite simple to use once you have it set up properly."

After revealing the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, Apple is finally releasing iOS 10 for everyone with a compatible device today. "Apple has posted a series of quick videos covering some helpful iPhone photography tips. If you’re one of the many people who use their iPhone as their primary camera, you’ll likely find some of them to be informative.
You’ll find a variety of photography topics covered in the short videos, ranging from how to take pictures with depth control settings, stage light, time-lapse videos, trimming videos, taking portrait selfies, using the rule of thirds, choosing key photos for Live Photos, and more."
Like any Apple fan, you might point out the month of September for the next big leap for iPhones. Well, it might be iPhone 7s or iPhone 8, but this is Apple’s 10th year releasing an iPhone! So it must be a leap of technology which will steal the lime light away from the Samsung Galaxy Note 8!
If you’re frequently adding Reminders to your iPhone or iPad through Siri or to return phone calls, you may quickly arrive at having dozens if not hundreds of reminders stored in the iOS app. Rather than wade through them all one by one, the Reminders app has a nice feature that allows you to search for a specific reminder directly, making it much easier to locate or retrieve an old mental note or any other digital nudge you have created.
Reminders can be searched at any time, but obviously you will need to have at least one reminder in your Reminders app to be able to search for something and have something retrieved that matches it. Realistically, this feature is best used when you have many reminders, old and new, and need to quickly find a particular one.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, IPHONE! Today, Cupertino's most famous device turns 10 years old. From its original release, the story of the iPhone has always been one about pushing the boundaries of what you could do with the power of a tiny computer in your pocket.
Thanks to a new feature in iOS 10.3, you can now see (and remove) every device connected to your Apple account right from your iPhone.
You can also check the status of their Find My Phone and iCloud backup functions, check device info like model, version, and serial number, view and remove Apple Pay cards on the device. All this information gathered in a single place makes it extremely convenient to manage your stable of Apple devices.
"Ever since Apple redesigned the iOS lock screen to remove swipe-to-unlock and require users to press the Home button instead, some iPhone users have discovered that accessing the Camera from the lock screen might be a challenge. The potentially difficult scenario is this; if you press the Home button to show the locked display which you would then swipe to access the iPhone Camera from, pressing the Home button also unlocks the iPhone and skips the lock screen with the camera access. I recently ran into someone who was convinced this set of actions meant their iPhone lock screen camera wasn’t working or no longer existed, so the behavior can lead to some degree of confusion as well.
Fortunately there’s a better way to access the iPhone camera from the lock screen in iOS 10 and newer, and it doesn’t involve using the Home button at all."
