There's a new, online word cloud generator available and it offers some very nice features for students and adults. Best of all, it's free!

Robin Good: Tagxedo is a great, free web-based tool that allows you to create stunning covers, images for articles or posters, based exclusively on words.

You can either input the words yourself, or provide a website URL, a Twitter account, a news or web search and Tagxedo will create a "word cloud" by tapping into that word "universe".

There dozens of different controls to customize your word-art creations including the ability to change layout, fonts, colors, shapes and even density of your artwork.

The final work can be shared easily on social media or saved in your preferred graphic file format (jpg or png) and at your desired resolution.

This morning I received an email from a reader who was looking for an alternative to ABCya's word cloud generator. ABCya's word cloud generator was a good one. Unfortunately, it is no longer available. Here are some other word cloud tools to try. 

The popularity of word cloud generation tools seems to have declined from their peak of about six years ago. None-the-less they are still useful in providing students with a nice way to visualize the most frequently used words in a passage of text. Wordle is probably the best known tool for making word clouds. But Wordle doesn't work well in many web browsers today so here are seven other word cloud generators to try.
