Kariuki said the meeting which will also bring together eminent scientists will also discuss ways in which the medical field of immunology can contribute towards tackling Africa’s heavy disease burden.
“Immunology is an important medical science, which investigates how our immune system protects us from infectious and non- communicable diseases. Researchers specializing in immunology have probably contributed more to the health of humans than any others in the medical field,” Kariuki said.
“For instance, immunologists have given us vaccines, the single most important medical invention of the last 200 years. In turn, vaccines have saved millions of lives from childhood diseases such as measles, and from respiratory ailments, tuberculosis, hepatitis and cervical cancer,” he said.
