The Department of Justice announced that a grand jury in the District of Columbia today returned an indictment presented by the Special Counsel’s Office. The indictment charges thirteen Russian nationals and three Russian companies for committing federal crimes while seeking to interfere in the United States political system, including the 2016 Presidential election. The defendants allegedly conducted what they called “information warfare against the United States,” with the stated goal of “spread[ing] distrust towards the candidates and the political system in general.
Joe Boutte's insight:

American democracy came under attack and the attack continues to be attacked through cyber, propaganda, and distractions.  Each of matter and our votes matter.  It is important for each of us to ignore the noise of the uninformed, the misinformed, and mal-informed, and discover the facts and pay attention to the facts.  We have to discard the distractions, lies, propaganda, and noise.  Here's one starting point for being a better-informed citizen and to keep our democracy strong.   The DoJ shared this news and the associated facts and evidence on February 16 regarding Russian interference in the U.S. political system.

“ The Right Questions: What Do We Really Need to Know? By Nancy Rapavi, NGA Office of Corporate Communications When Chris Pittman was an all-source analyst, he created products for national security briefers that were data rich and complex. His operational method had been to include as much information as possible. But he did not really know if the products he created were useful. Beyond that, he wondered, were they the most useful they could be?”

Synthetic data could ease the burden of training data for AI models

Synthetic data could ease the burden of training data for AI models | Future of Manufacturing - Industry 4.0 | Scoop.it
Synthetic data is artificially manufactured training data designed to work as effectively as the real thing.
Joe Boutte's insight:

I like this quote from the article, "Machine learning models are gluttonous. They need to consume a lot of training data -- and the right training data -- if they're going to work properly. In fact, one of the hurdles to capitalizing on machine learning technology is collecting enough data to satisfy the models."

With the massive data sets available, finding more training data may not be as challenging as it seems, but finding the right data is more critical.  The idea and implementation of synthetic training data may accelerate adaption in organizations.
