Building Relationships Through Social Media

Building Relationships Through Social Media | Social Media Engagement | Scoop.it
Blogging, SEO, and building relationships in #realestate with @massrealty and @PipelineROI
Bill Gassett's insight:

Most businesses get social media all wrong. They see it as a mechanism to advertise their latest product or service. What these people do not understand is that you cannot be successful at selling in social media without having built relationships first!

It is like walking into a party and just after you are introduced to everyone you go off on a wild speech about why they should by your product.

Would this not be a major turn-off? Of course it would and this is exactly what many people do in social media channels.

My industry (real estate) is the perfect example of this. So many real estate agents do not understand the point of how to be successful at social media.

The average real estate agent will do nothing more than share their latest listing for sale into all the major social media sites. Very few people want to see homes for sale in a social media setting.

What real estate agents don't seem to get is that people don't go to these place looking for a home to buy. The majority of the people are turned off when they see this kind of thing.

In the article I explain in depth how to use social media for real estate.

I can tell you as someone who works in the industry it is annoying for me as well. Why do I care about someones home for sale in India or on main street in some city, USA. I don't!

If you are looking to increase your business from social media your focus should be on building relationships with others in your industry, especially those folks who have some influence.

In the article you can see how I have built a loyal tribe of followers that have allowed me to increase my brand recognition, strengthen my SEO and increase my overall visibility as a real estate agent.

Without knowing how to use social media and building meaningful relationships I would not be where I am today.

Take a look at the article and see if you can get something from it. If so please consider giving it a scoop!

Braden O'Neill's curator insight, December 16, 2015 2:46 PM

The new frontier for real estate agent's exists online. This should sound very obvious to all of you. But for some reason (maybe because the avg. age of a realtor is 57?) most agents ignore this aspect of their business. This is ludicrous. While there are many facets to the online game, one of the most important is social media. If done properly, then it can be a great source of new leads.

Bill Gassett's insight:

Most people who join social media networks have at least one goal in mind and that is to get more people following them. We all want our voice to be heard but that is awful hard to do unless you have an engaged audience.

The problem however is that most people don't know how to use social media properly. They use it as a tool to broadcast and not to build relationships. This is where most fail because you can't hope to grow and your first without showing you care about them.

The best social media marketers understand two things:

1.) You need great content worthy of being read and shared.

2.) You need to reciprocate with those who support you.

When it comes to Twitter this is huge! The RE-TWEET should be something you do on a daily basis! This is one of the tips I share in the article.

Bill Gassett's insight:

Having a real estate blog has been one of the best thing I have done over the course of my twenty eight year career. Having a blog allows you to showcase your expertise and put it out there for the world to see.

There are lots of real estate agents who start a blog and get no where with it. The most common reason is not spending enough time with it. Like anything else it takes hard work. You can't expect to jump into blogging half ass and think it is going to be a money maker for you.

Good blogging takes a number of skills including writing, SEO and promotion. You really need to have all three skills sets down in order for it to really work.

In the article I share some of the ways in which I have achieved success with my Massachusetts real estate blog. @Andrew Fortune who interviewed me for this article along with @Lynn Pineda a real estate blogger in Coral Springs Florida share some of thoughts on how Realtors can succeed.

If you are looking to start your own real estate blog take a look at the article. Maybe you can grab a tip of two from Lynn, Andrew and myself.

One of the best things about blogging is the fact it can be fun if you enjoy it. Without question the first time someone calls you and says they would like to discuss selling or buying a home with you is a great feeling.

It is at that point you will know your blogging efforts are paying off!

ScottsdaleHomesoldfast's comment, September 20, 2014 11:44 PM
While searching for the best marketing technique in real estate, I took a commercial real estate class from a lady once who's mantra was, "All real estate is microeconomic." The four P's of marketing apply in real estate too. Placement, Price, Product, Promotion. I had a marketing prof who included a fifth P, which was Person. All of those P's must be in alignment for any marketing strategy to work as intended. Consider who your person is; create the appropriate promotion; put it in a place they will notice it; advertise the desired price and for the desired product. The appropriate and effective marketing mix will be "microeconomic" or geographic specific, more appropriately. I would love to hear your views on this?

Bill Gassett's insight:

Using social media properly is one of the most misunderstood things for many people. The natural inclination for many is to use it as a tool to sell something. Unfortunately this does not get you anywhere unless you have built relationships with your audience first.

The perfect example of this happens all the time in my industry (real estate). Realtors are constantly shoving real estate listings down people throats like this is somehow going to magically propel their business.

The common denominator of agents who do this is to hear crickets on their social media profiles. People do not go to social sites to be sold real estate listings!

10 Must-Know Tips to Leverage Pinterest for Your Business

10 Must-Know Tips to Leverage Pinterest for Your Business | Social Media Engagement | Scoop.it
Pinterest offers perhaps the most unique benefits among all social media platforms. And if your businesses’ content marketing strategy has not factored Pinterest in the mix you are missing out on a huge chunk of traffic from a site that sends more visitors to web properties than the much-vaunted Twitter and has more than 70 million users.

Bill Gassett's insight:

Do you use Pinterest for your business? if not why not? If you have this pre-conceived notion that it is a bunch of house wives pinning curtains and pocketbooks you are WRONG!

Pinterest is in fact the #1 traffic source to my real estate blog. After you get your feet wet by using Pinterest I would suggest doing a couple of things that will really increase the potential for user interest and engagement.

These include adding a "pin it" button right onto the images on your plugin. There are a few Wordpress plugins out there that will do this for you.

I would also apply for "rich pins" which add schema meta data to all of your posts making them look awesome.
