Twitter to roll out tweet scheduling, but is it that revolutionary?

From blog.kissmetrics.com

What does this new feature mean for marketers? How do they use Scheduled Tweets? How can they maximize its value? Is there anything they should be aware of?
Ally Greer:

There are plenty of opportunities that come from the ability to schedule tweets on Twitter, most of which are covered here.

That said, I'm not sure if this will be as big of a deal as it's made out, because this has been a feature on so many third party tools for quite some time now. Tweet scheduling isn't a new concept at all, thanks to Buffer, Tweetdeck, Sprout Social, TweetDeck, etc.

Speaking for myself, I rarely even use Twitter.com to send or consume tweets. There's a reason why social media managers use third party apps, like Leo states - there are other features like analytics, being able to post from multiple accounts in one place, etc. In my opinion, this won't change much.

Deanna Dahlsad's curator insight, October 18, 2013 3:59 PM

As pointed out by others, such as Ally Greer who first posted or scooped this, the scheduling mechanism isn't new to people who have been using third party tools. However, for those who either do not like the extra logins etc. of third party tools, do not like to pay for them, or who just want to tweet and don't care about other bells & whistles (and there are a lot of those people!), this is indeed a good thing.

Twiiter you are to late.  I like many other marketers do not use the twitter.com site to make posts.
ValStilwell's curator insight, October 23, 2013 9:04 AM

Twitter's bringing this feature inhouse - I say why not. But I wonder, if there's going to be an intuitive auto scheduler as well like Buffer or Hootlet.

A Return To (Actual) Social Media Humanity

From blog.andrewteman.org

Pick a brand.

Any brand.

Now go to their Facebook page or Twitter feed and what do you see?

Maybe a car that’s rooting for a football team? Perhaps it’s a box of cereal that wants to know how your weekend was? Or it could be a stick of deodorant that’s curious to know what you thought of the Breaking Bad finale.

And it’s all fucking awkward.

Ally Greer:

Love this post.

5 important questions answered about the importance of social business strategy - Brian Solis

From www.briansolis.com

Ally Greer:

Brian Solis always has great information and stats to share when it comes to building a social busines strategy. What stuck out to me from this post is the importance of ensuring that your social strategy actually is a social business strategy, and not just an add-on to your business.

Social strategy will produce significant, tangible results if - and only if - it is fully integrated across all departments and developed with specific goals in mind.

From the article:

"Remember, social business isn’t about technology; it’s about attaining goals and objectives by improving relationships, driving transactions, and enhancing experiences through channels of relevance. Technology and channels will always evolve and as such, they become enablers for a higher purpose. This is about the ongoing pursuit of relevance."

Promotions on Your Facebook Page are Now Easier to Administer

From likeablelocal.tumblr.com

Facebook is at it again - changing things on us left and right. But this time around it looks like the change they’ve made may be for the better. Your business’ Facebook page can now administer a promotion straight through the Timeline!
Ally Greer:

I don't know about you, but I'm always afraid to run contests on Facebook for fear of breaking one of the (many) rules and being chased by the Facebook Police.

Fortunately, the rules have changed in our favor and here's a great post laying out the CANs and CANNOTs very clearly!

Could this be the demise of third party apps built solely for hosting contests on Facebook because this was formerly the only way allowed?

9 Social Listening Tools For Small Business Online Marketing Success

From www.steamfeed.com

You can choose to be part of the online conversation and contribute to steering it. Or, you can let conversation go on without you, letting others control what is said about your business brand. Learn what social listening tools can help you achieve small business online marketing success. So you start your business, you get a website, and sign up for Facebook and maybe one or two other social networks. Your online marketing plans are set, right? No! One thing you forgot is social listening tools…There are now many options – Both free and paid. This is meant as a social listening tools review. Those that will benefit the most are just beginning to calculate winning customers online by connecting the puzzle pieces of their efforts...

Ally Greer:

If you've ever heard me talk about my job, it's pretty common that I refer to myself as a 'professional stalker.' As humorous as it's intended to be, following people who are talking about Scoop.it's space as well as the social media and community space in general is one of the biggest - and most useful - parts of my job.

Ever since I started using HootSuite, TweetDeck, and Sprout Social, I've become a huge advocate of social listening. I can't count the number of times I've solved a problem for a user, gained an ambassador, or simply formed a new relationship due to following people talking about certain things and not being afraid to jump in. Sometimes, people are afraid to come directly to us, so instead, I have to find them (which ends up being even more impressive from the customer standpoint ;) ).

A tool that I would add to this list is a brand new one that I've been testing. Spyderr (OneQube) is made by Internet Media Labs and is just rolling out in beta. It's an awesome social listening tool that tracks any hashtag and the people tweeting about it categorizing them both by qualities that you identify and by influence. This is really going to be an awesome tool and I can't wait to use it more!

Twitter is the common dude’s RSS reader, new discovery tools show

From venturebeat.com

The crux of the matter is simple: Around half of Twitter users are using the service as a supersimplified RSS reader, not as a mechanism for broadcasting their own thoughts to an uncaring world. Since the company wants to grow — and wants to continue to grow more mainstream — it’s in its best interests to make Twitter the simplest, best RSS reader anyone could ask for. And today’s announcements about finding and following topics take the product a bit closer to that goal.

Brand Marketers: Influencer Outreach Makes Perfect Cents

Naomi Assaraf's comment, July 23, 2013 12:13 AM
Totally agree that influencers are the ones that should get a message out, but I can understand the hesitation of the marketer as well, since influencers take a long time to build trust before they become brand advocates... IF they become brand advocates. A healthy dose of any marketing mix is still paid search, retargeting campaign, AND a social media campaign identifying and engaging with influencers. Just MY two cents. ;)

COPY - Create Loyal Customers and Raving Fans With Just Your Website

From blog.crazyegg.com

How to tweak your website copy to create loyal customers, build relationships, and generate the “know-like-trust” factor that everyone’s talking about.
Ally Greer:

Your website is your first impression. No questions asked.

How do you turn casual browsers into loyal customers who rave about you to their social circles?

-Keep it simple (there's one I bet you've never heard before ;)). What is the four word story that you want your viewers to see, process, and remember? Integrate this into your site in any way you possibly can, and make sure it's consistent across the board.

- Down with the "royal we!" If you have a team, introduce them. If you don't, introduce yourself. And by introduce, I don't mean a zombie bio. I mean a photo, a little bit about what you do, and a few things about yourself as a person as well. Getting to know you and what you're about helps current and potential customers feel that much more connected to you and, in turn, your brand.
