How To Create Effective Posts on the 4 Main Social Sites [Infographic]

From www.bitrebels.com

It can be tough knowing what works on which social site. This infographic lays it out nicely. It will show you how to create effective posts on each site.

If you want to be very effective at posting on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+, it can take a bit more finesse and patience than expected. Just like you learn through trial and error what topics your blog readers gravitate to, you have to take time to learn about your social media audiences as well.

With this infographic, learn how to create effective posts on each major site to maximize reach and potential.

Ally Greer:

GREAT tips in here: although I still can't get behind the "optimal timing for posts." I'll always stand behind my theory that there is no right answer for that.

Samuel Pustea's comment, July 10, 2013 1:20 PM
Yes, almost all of us post to all of those 4 social media sites. ;)

I love the little details one can learn in making the best social updates int heir network.

Almost all the social updates I do are based on the testing I have done.

Agile marketing: the 70:20:10 rule

From econsultancy.com

One of the characteristics of the modern marketer outlined in our recent Modern Marketing Manifesto is agility. The ability to be responsive and adaptive. To be flexible and embrace change.
Ally Greer:

"70% of your marketing is the planned ‘marketing as usual’ activity20% of your marketing should be programmatic.10% of your marketing is purely responsive Oreo-style."

Agile marketing is where it's at these days - going through the traditional steps of marketing just won't cut it anymore. With social media and various other ways to reach your audience in real-time, there's no excuse for not being able to respond to things as they happen. Who knows, you might come up with the next big campaign (and make a big enough impact to have a marketing technique named after you: Oreo-style).

Ally Greer's curator insight, June 24, 2013 2:17 PM

Lean and Agile go hand in hand. Developing lean processes within your marketing team and maintaining the lean content mindset will ultimately train the minds of your team members to be able to think and act nimbly as well as to create bits of content that can be used in a pinch.

Instagram vs. Vine - initial thoughts from Jeremy Goldman

From www.youtube.com

Here's what I'm thinking in relation to Instagram's announcement about video. Is it going after Vine? Well, yes. But is there room for both? Maybe.
Ally Greer:

In probably the most interesting of the reactions to Instagram's introduction of video that I've seen so far (and there have been millions in the last 24 hours), Jeremy Goldman makes a point that I don't think anyone has actually acknowledged yet: there might be room for both Instagram and Vine to coexist.

Some of Jeremy's points:

-Vine is 6 seconds, Instagram is 15.

-Instagram contains a seamless integration of video and photo - the product/network is actually a different type of place.

And my personal favorite:

-Many comparisons can be made between Facebook and Twitter, but I can probably count on my fingers how many people are using one instead of the other. Remember when Twitter was considered "just Facebook statuses?" Look what happened there.

Maybe Vine and Instagram can both succeed, maybe neither will. What do you think?

Four Marketing Lessons I Learned by Watching Mad Men

From www.richrobinsonmarketing.com

Once, I thought I wanted to be Don Draper. I was a chronically bankrupt college student studying marketing and advertising, and he was a powerful executive desired by clients, ad firms, and women...
Ally Greer:

B2B marketing guy Rich Robinson has combined two of my favorite things in the whole world: Don Draper and marketing.

Every Sunday night as I watch Mad Men, I think about how different the industry and its execs were back then - but also how many of its principles can be applied to business today.

This post brings out all the points that I've observed as well as some others that I hadn't even been able to put into words.

My personal favorite: Lesson 4: You can't possibly appeal to everyone. Choose a single message / identity and stick with it!

How To Write The Perfect Tweet Blueprint

From marketingthink.com

Gerry Moran breaks down Twitter's 140 characters to help you write the perfect tweet. Combine your interesting content and your personal style with this blueprint to reach more people with your message!
Ally Greer:

Here's a great tweet skeleton with some useful advice from Gerry Moran.

Something I'd add to the "Format" section: Decide on what format you're going to use based upon your goals. For me, using facts/stats is great for RTs while using headlines (with a little hint of mystery) is optimal for clicks.

Another tip I'd add is to change up the structure every so often and put the link in the middle of your message (or two micromessages). Per [SEO]Moz's Rand Fishkin, tweets with between text tend to get higher click throughs.

Ken Dickens's curator insight, June 16, 2013 2:57 PM

I am not a big Tweeter, but this was helpful.  I would add have separate types of Tweets for different outcomes:  1. clear information for Re-Tweets 2. Tantalizing headlines for clicks.  And, mix up where you put your links.  -Ken

3 best practices for optimizing your mobile landing pages and websites

From www.bislr.com

Internet usage on mobile and tablet devices is increasing dramatically every day. What's surprising is just how many companies aren't putting the time into optimizing their landing pages or website for mobile.
Ally Greer:

You know how they say "if you're not on social you don't exist?" Well, a similar concept can - and should - be applied to mobile. If your website isn't mobile optimized, it may still exist, but it's going to cause frustration for a large percentage of your readers. Smartphone usage is off the charts with the increasing amount of people converting ( who actually has a non-internet cellphone anymore? ) and consuming content on the go. With these steps, you're on your way to a great mobile site.

9 Expert Tips for Powering Up Your Social Media Program

From businessonmain.msn.com

Social media posts tell a story about you and your brand. Here are cautions to heed, trends to follow, and steps to take as you build your social media brand personality.
Ally Greer:

Create a voice people want to hang out with: putting it that way gives an interesting twist to the "be human" social media tip that's constantly thrown around by the gurus. I like the idea of viewing "social engagement" as "hanging out."

Be an active listener: If social media is 25% broadcasting and 75% conversing, it should probably be about 200% listening. If you're doing a good job, people are talking about you. Swooping in and letting them know you heard them is one of the easiest ways to make a customer's day, and isn't that what it ultimately comes down to anyway?

Realize that fans and followers are overrated metrics: I've seen Twitter accounts with a few thousand followers and about three hundred times the engagement of a brand with tens of thousands. Numbers are numbers. They're easy to report, but try explaining the ROI of social without any concrete interaction (hint: it doesn't work!).

How Retailers Can Use Social Media To Attract More Customers

Oluwasemilogo Akinmuyiwa's comment, May 25, 2013 10:34 AM
My concern is the cost at which these things come to us marketer. There is no budget for small businesses.
Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, May 26, 2013 1:30 PM

Dead In The Water
Dead in the water indeed since your competitors are out there creating wiht social media, learning what works and building a following. Good luck catching up fast.

NOTHING happens all that fast in social media. You can create great campaigns that boost your social media 10x, but natural growth is SLOW and STEADY.

This means your social media strategy will need to DISRUPT to win and create trust at the same time. Those two ideas can be mutually exclusive so make sure to JUMP IN NOW or double your efforts now.

Rememer if you are not the lead sleddog the view is always the same :).

HubSpot creates the best unsubscribe message ever

From www.prdaily.com

The inbound marketing firm lets people who opt out of its email newsletters go with some humor, in the form of a break-up video.
Ally Greer:

As many times as you might hear the phrase "email marketing is dead," if you ask anyone who actually uses it, they will tell you that it most certainly isn't. Email marketing is one of the best ways to spread content and reach your customers directly.

That said, there is one downside - some people just don't like the sight of that cluttered inbox. When their frustration reaches a tipping point, they're likely to unsubscribe to your emails, and you'll never be able to reach them directly again.

Some companies, though, take this as an opportunity to show some empathy, and maybe even a little humor, in an effort to reconnect with their valued customers. Hubspot's newest email unsubscribe message is simply awesome. Check it out.

Ken Morrison's curator insight, May 28, 2013 6:18 PM

Breaking up is hard to do  HubSpot knows marketing and psychology and humor and the power of video.  They mix it all together in this wonderful unsubscribe message.
